And with that rather sombre confirmation of a bad break to the leg of Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman, we bid you good night.

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill on Sky Sports: “It's a bad break. He's a fantastic player and character. It’s a major blow for the lad, his club and us.

"Apparently it wasn’t the best challenge in the world – I haven’t seen it. He's gone to hospital. I saw his reaction immediately and it didn’t look good. He was holding is leg up and it didn't look good.

"We had a few things to overcome this week. We have a really great spirit. 

"Seamus is a major blow - at the end of it all the most important thing is Seamus' health."

On James McCarthy's withdrawal: "You can train and feel OK - he didn't feel as if it was worth taking a chance."

Republic midfielder James McClean on Sky Sports: "It’s been a tough week in Derry and me personally. Martin McGuinness was a huge figure in my life in recent years and I was friends with Ryan McBride . With those two passing it was tough.

“I room by myself so behind closed doors I got my emotion out. The players and staff rallied around me. I owed them a performance.

“I thought it'd be a nice touch to wear the number five [the shirt number worn by McBride]. I can't imagine the pain the family are going through."

Seamus Coleman's Everton team-mate Yannick Bolasie has his say - he's out with a serious knee injury at the moment. 

Wales manager Chris Coleman : "First and foremost, the most important thing is Seamus Coleman. We are told that it is not so good which we are sorry for.

"Neil Taylor is not really that type of player but it's a tough one for Seamus. Our thoughts are with him. I have not seen it again.

"Neil is in the dressing room, he's despondent. If he's got it wrong, he's had a serious injury himself. I have my fingers crossed for Seamus Coleman, he is the most important thing tonight."

Martin O'Neill also adds that midfielder James McCarthy had trained for the last few days and 'felt fine', but felt that after the warm up he couldn't carry on. 

Confirmation of the sad news that Seamus Coleman has indeed broken his leg and was taken straight to hospital.

Republic started the campaign on bit of a slow-mo, performance wise, they weren't quite there. Moldova kick-started that and it was a great result against Austria, but tonight was a little flat.

Overall, the spirit is certainly there, there is a real togetherness, especially when they play together here in Dublin.

We wish a speedy recovery to Seamus Coleman

The Republic are in the driving seat. A draw is not the worst result, everything is still in their hands going forward - it's another good point.

It wasn't a great performance, a great game, from either side. I think everybody within the Republic camp would have taken a 0-0 draw before the game.

Everton have lost Seamus Coleman to a serious injury tonight but they have also lost James McCarthy of course. He was named in the starting XI tonight and then pulled out just before kick off with what we believe was a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

To win a game of football you have to create chances, score goals. We failed to do that so it's disappointing because we had more in the tank and I felt we left a little bit out there.

Overall, we showed a little bit or spirit, a little bit of character to stay in there when we were down to 10.

It's an awful challenge, a little bit of a misread. He jumps into it, Seamus Coleman is too quick for him and then Neil Taylor is high and it looks a really serious injury for Coleman.

He's so popular, it will be a huge blow for Martin O'Neill, the Republic of Ireland and Everton.

All I can say is all our thoughts are with Seamus Coleman, he led by example, skippering the Republic of Ireland team.

I have watched Neil Taylor with Swansea and for Wales and not seen him get sent off, go in high. I've not seen a replay, I'm not sure if I really want to see it.

You would have to ask Neil Taylor why he's lunged in the way he did, it's out of character.

I'd love to stick up for a fellow Welshman with the Gareth Bale challenge, but it's late, high and I've seen those get a red card - he was fortunate to stay on the pitch.

Wales forward Gareth Bale: "We knew they would make it difficult for us and we controlled the game in the second half until the red card.

"Given that we played for 20 minutes with 10 men we'll take 0-0. I didn't think mine was a yellow card to be honest, but the referee gave it. What can I do?

"We never wish an injury on anyone, I don't know how bad it is but we all wish him [Seamus Coleman] a speedy recovery."

There were three shots on target in the whole game, it was not the greatest spectacle in the world.

All of that rather pales into insignificance though when compared to the injury suffered by Ireland captain Seamus Coleman.

It's not the worst result for the Republic, but with Wales going down to 10 you think 'could they have done more in the latter stages?'.

It puts Ireland one step closer to the World Cup.

Both sides lack serious quality in the final third, I don't think they put enough crosses in or made enough chances.

Credit to Wales for defending, standing so strong - it was constant pressure from the Republic, really piling on the pressure.

Wales, really needing to get something, just managed to get a draw.

It was a gusty performance at 10-men, but I don't think it was a great performance and we have to go to Serbia without our talisman Gareth Bale.

Richard: Didn't do enough to win. Bale and Taylor suspended. Horror injury for Coleman. Not a good night for #Wales, external by any stretch.

Christopher Davison : As a man who broke his own leg badly a few years ago you would think Taylor would know better. Shocking.
