A point that does the Republic of Ireland more good than Wales, who will now be without Gareth Bale and Neil Taylor in Serbia.

Ireland are set to be without captain Seamus Coleman for the foreseeable future. Finding out the latest on his injury is the main job for the rest of the night.

On behalf of Neil Taylor, I know Neil, he's not that sort of player.

There is no malice, it looks bad and it's out of character for him to challenge like that - our thoughts are with Seamus Coleman.

More penalty area pinball but Wales scramble it clear, Wayne Hennessey then makes a hash of another punch clear! He gets away with another one...

Oooops, Wayne Hennessey shells a simple catch and almost gifts the Republic a tap-in but Ashley Williams hacks it away...

James McClean is named man of the match at the Aviva, to rich applause. He has put a shift in and maybe could have opened the scoring just after Neil Taylor's red card.

The trumpeter continues to be as out of tune as most of the attackers on display this evening as we tick toward full time.

Unfortunately Seamus Coleman's serious-looking injury is likely to be the biggest talking point to be taken from tonight's game.

  8. CLOSE!published at 85 mins

Wow that was close! Gareth Bale has not had his best night but he nearly wins it for Wales with a sensational solo run. Picking the ball up on halfway, he runs from deep, backs up a defender and swerves a shot wide from 20 yards.

Gareth Bale is high on James McClean, a boot into the stomach and for a moment he is worried that he might get a second yellow and a red...

He gets away with just a foul.

The home crowd are in fine voice now as they push on for the final 10 minutes. James McClean's deep cross is well defended at the far post. Wales hanging on.

Aiden McGeady, having a sort of renaissance at Preston North End, is on for David Meyler as Ireland try and make their man advantage count.

It's all Ireland now as a cross just goes over the top of Shane Long's head. Can they find a winner in the last 15 minutes or so?

  13. CLOSE!published at 74 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Wales

Can Ireland make their extra man count? They almost do instantly as James McClean latches on to a poor punch from Wayne Hennessey, his first shot with his left foot is blocked but he then screws one wide with his right!

Richard Keogh then has a shot turned away for a corner. The home fans can sense a goal coming.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 73 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Wales

Cyrus Christie is on at right-back to replace the stricken Seamus Coleman. Wales down to 10 men remember.

We've seen no replays of that wild tackle from Neil Taylor, possibly because of the severity of Seamus Coleman's injury.

The stretcher is on the field and the Everton player seems to be in a great deal of pain.

The Republic captain Seamus Coleman is being stretchered off now, to a standing ovation. Let's just hope that his injury is not as bad as it first appeared.

  17. Taylor off for foul on Colemanpublished at 69 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Wales

Oh this is a nasty one. Neil Taylor is shown a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Seamus Coleman. I can't tell you too much about the tackle as they have shown no replays at all.

This is a serious injury for Coleman. It doesn't do to speculate but that looks really, really bad for the Everton full-back, who is being attended to and is having gas.

  19. YELLOW CARD - Bale SUSPENDEDpublished at 69 mins

Big news. Gareth Bale is now out of the trip to Serbia, and it's a dangerous tackle too. He is trying to meet a cross on the bounce, so you can see why he's gone for it, but he's high on John O'Shea.

Wales have had 74% possession in the second half, but still haven't really looked like scoring. They have had the only two shots on target mind.
