Bournemouth are keeping the ball and moving it around well but their strikers don't seem to be finding the space or the runs to get behind the back four.

Rain is falling, pretty heavily. I thought that the weather is better in the south? Bournemouth finally have some of the play, but Joshua King and Benik Afobe are being policed incredibly closely.

Southampton have started well for me. They look more of a threat for me.

Jay Rodriguez looks sharp - his movement looks good.

Bournemouth's biggest problem seems to be who picks up Tadic. He is not being marked and has had the best chance for me - he needs a little more calmness on the ball though.

    Southampton 0-0 Bournemouth

Southampton look bright every time they go forward, Bournemouth consistently having to chase back towards their own goal. Jay Rodriguez cuts in from the left and has a dabble with his right foot, only for Artur Boruc to get his guts behind it.

The ball is in the net, but it won't count. Jay Rodriguez is just offside when Ryan Bertrand's delightful ball is played, the flag rightly being raised.

It's been pointed out to me that Chester's local rivals are Wrexham (see our earlier conversation about a derby/non-derby).

Do Coventry have any big local rivals? What about Northampton?

The very fact Saints have got a regular side now, you can see the improvement with that consistency. They are playing much better now than they were before Christmas.

They are looking dangerous in that final third.

They say a forward should worry about a lack of chances, not a lack of goals. Still, it would be handy for Saints if Dusan Tadic could start hitting the target. A third effort on goal, a third nowhere near. Artur Boruc is the safest man in Southampton. Any chance, Dusan?

    Southampton 0-0 Bournemouth

This is a good watch, with Bournemouth now finding their way. Charlie Daniels comes down the left, but his cross has just too much meat for Benik Afobe. There's a good atmos too, noise from both sets of fans.

    Southampton 0-0 Bournemouth

This is a bright start from Saints, twice the ball gets played into the Bournemouth box, once scrambled clear and the second falling to Tadic, who again fails to hit the target. Sleepy in the south, this is not.

Early chance, and one that Dusan Tadic should have made more of. Given the freedom of the city, the Serb has a pop from the edge of the Bournemouth area, but can only find a passing ship.

Bournemouth are in their change of mainly blue, with white hooped stripes. Saints, usual red and white, are attacking the goal to our left as we look on.

Emerge, shake hands, have photo. The set menu. Lots of cuddles between the players, as if they are meeting a long-lost friend. My Way on the PA. Is that usual for Saints?

The players are in the tunnel. Bournemouth are clearly the tougher bunch - they don't need tracksuit tops like Saints.

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe:  "We've never won at Southampton, so we want to create history this weekend.

"From our perspective, this weekend is a bit of a different game for us. We want to give our supporters something to shout about.

"We've been more consistent recently, but we know there's a long way to go and that we have a tough run of fixtures ahead."

    Southampton

Southampton manager Claude Puel:  "We now have many players available for the team with good spirit. When I can't take an international in the team like Jordy Clasie, it's difficult for me for him to stay at home.

"It's always difficult to make a choice, but it's important for all the team to have the respect of the staff and all the players.

"They must keep a good attitude because we have many games [coming up]."

It looks like a lovely evening on the south coast. Sky clear, the floodlights on but not really needed yet. St Mary's is filling nicely, certainly more red seats occupied than not. The groundsman has done a good job with the stripes on the turf. The pitch looks like hipster wallpaper.

Also, what about strange football rivalries, or non-rivalries? I can never get my head around how Oxford and Swindon consider themselves local rivals. They're an hour apart!
