Liverpool were earlier in the season playing a really pacy game early in matches but they have realised, 

a) It's really hard to do that

and 

b) It's really hard to do that with a depleted squad like they have at the moment. 

Its actually smart from them to maintain a bit of a calmer pace. 

A real worry for Everton here however, is both wide players, Mane and Coutinho, one on one, you get the feeling they will always beat the defenders. 

When Romelu Lukaku goes to bed tonight, he'll have Dejan Lovren next to him. Everywhere Lukaku goes, Lovren is breathing down his neck. Everton corner, Phil Jagielka gets his head to it, but there's no danger.

He is not always the most popular player amongst the Liverpool fans but Lucas is playing it very cleverly - dropping from midfield to the back and adapting as the match develops - he is killing a lot of the space that Everton want to be using, particularly Ross Barkley. 

I'll say it again, Everton haven't won here since September 1999. Do you know who was number one then? Annoying Italian electro-popsters Eiffel 65 with their uber-hit Blue. How appropriate.

The challenges are heating up. We're on about gas mark three at the moment. It'll be a furnace by the end. They might not even need a ball. Lucas has just booted the ball against Tom Davies. Everton are still chasing shadows.

Anfield is rocking, Liverpool remain on the front foot after the goal. Everton look a little shell-shocked. Mane is everywhere, the Reds are knocking it about and Everton can't get a kick.

Nice derby atmosphere here to start with. A couple of strong challenges have come in already but no one seems to be rolling around making a meal of it which is good to see. 

It's worth noting the Everton fans joined in the applause from start to finish of that minutes tribute to Bugsy. 

Now we've started. It was Ross Barkley in trouble when these two sides last met thanks to a challenge on Jordan Henderson. Now he's tattooed Emre Can. He's done well to avoid going in the book there.

Everton come through Ross Barkley, who is squeezed out by about six red shirts. It hasn't settled yet, the ball pinging around with no one able to get a decent grip. The singing is from The Kop.
