The players come together around the centre circle, The Kop holds signs to spell out 'Bugsy'. Anfield remembers Ronnie Moran with a minute's applause. Mr Liverpool passed away 10 days ago. In his 49 years at the club, the Reds won 13 league titles.

Here we go then, the players emerge from the tunnel, Jurgen Klopp beats his chest and salutes The Kop. A hug between the managers, and a slapp of the head from Klopp to Koeman.

Everton need to be ready for an onslaught today. They need to keep it as tight as possible at the back there, right from the get-go.

They need to keep it as tight as possible at the back there. I have actually seen Everton play with this set up. It didn't go very well - infact they got beaten 5-0 by Chelsea.

    Liverpool v Everton (12:30 BST)

Everton manager Ronald Koeman: "The game plan has not changed. The position of Seamus Coleman has changed and Mason Holgate is starting and for the position of Ramiro Funes Mori, Matthew Pennington is starting. The rest is the same. They are two young players but I am totally confident in them.

"I spoke to him (pennington) two weeks ago and told him he was doing really well and that he would get an opportunity to play. Two weeks later he's starting, that's football."

On three at the back, he says: "That is the best way to press Liverpool. That's what we like but we need an offensive mentality to go face to face."

  8. Who is Matthew Pennington?published at 12:21 British Summer Time 1 April 2017

    Liverpool v Everton (12:30 BST)

Matthew Pennington, 22, has been at Everton since he was 11 and had spells on loan at Tranmere and Coventry before making his Toffees debut in August 2015 against Barnsley in the League Cup.

He had another stint on loan when he went to Walsall befopre returning to make his Premier League debut in a 2-1 win over Bournemouth in April 2016.

He made four top-flight appearances last season and the game against Liverpool - yes Liverpool - is his first outing this season.

Good lord, Bond is in the house.

James Bond (well, Daniel Craig), is at Anfield. I haven't been this excited about a celeb spot since Ric Flair came to BBC towers.

A penny for Matthew Pennington's thoughts right now. The 22-year-old from Warrington makes his first start of the season. In the Merseyside derby. At Anfield.

    Liverpool v Everton (12:30 BST)

Both these sides have suffered injury problems following the international break. Liverpool are without attacking midfielder Adam Lallana after he picked up a thigh injury on England duty. He is replaced by Lucas Leiva, while centre-back Dejan Lovren, who last played on 31 January, returns after a knee injury. Brazil forwards Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino start after the club chartered a private jet to bring them back the pair following a World Cup qualifying win over Paraguay.

Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Milner, Can, Lucas, Wijnaldum, Mane, Firmino, Coutinho.

Everton  right-back Seamus Coleman suffered a broken leg playing for the Republic of Ireland and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, while Argentina defender Ramiro Funes Mori could be out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in action for Argentina. Mason Holgate replaces Coleman, while Matthew Pennington makes his first start of the season as he forms part of a three-man central defence. Striker Romelu Lukaku leads the attack.

Everton:  Robles, Jagielka, Ashley Williams, Holgate, Pennington, Davies, Gana, Baines, Barkley, Lukaku, Calvert-Lewin.

Both Liverpool and Everton are bang in form, you're already well aware of that oft-repeated stat about this being the most red-card-heavy fixture in Premier League history (football didn't exist before 1992) and the Blues haven't won here this century.

It's grey on Merseyside, so drab that the floodlights are already required,

The weather, though, is probably the only thing that will be dull today...

It could be an April Fools Day to remember for Doncaster Rovers because they can secure promotion back to League One today.

They need to beat Grimsby in the early kick off and then, if results go their way, they will go up. If Stevenage lost to Barnet and Luton draw with Blackpool, Doncaster are promoted.

At the other end of the table, Leyton Orient's hopes of staying up are looking bleak. They are bottom, seven points from safety but have the chance to close the gap when they host Wycombe.

I am not a fan of these early kick-offs, which don't often seem to produce much excitement, but I do think this will be an open game.

I don't think Everton will go to Anfield and just try to defend, which is the main reason I am backing Liverpool to win.

As everyone knows, when teams do sit in against Liverpool, it normally causes Jurgen Klopp's side problems, but I don't think Koeman is the type of manager who will try it.

    Lawro's prediction:  2-0

We mentioned The Unremembered event earlier (see 11:45 am).

Well, it took place ahead of Qingming, or Tomb-sweeping Day, on 4 April – a traditional Chinese festival for remembering ancestors.

The event was held before the Merseyside derby to show unity and togetherness ahead of the game at Anfield.

"It is crucial that the players are educated on off the field matters such as WW1 so it was a real honour to be able to remember those that sadly passed away," Phil Roscoe, Liverpool head of education and welfare, said.

"We have a great relationship with Everton and today only highlighted the importance of unity."

David Porter, head of academy education at Everton, added: "The city of Liverpool is renowned for its Chinese culture and it seemed appropriate to come together with Liverpool to pay our respects – another great example of how football can unite us all, no matter the colour of your team.”

Adam Lallana against Lithuania was head and shoulders above every player on the pitch. The technical ability he brings to the table is phenomenal. The guy has improved so much since he arrived at Liverpool and he is a massive miss in this game. Ashley Williams will be delighted.

Liverpool are definitely going to miss their key players a lot more than Everton. Everything points towards Everton putting that hoodoo to bed.
