Summary

  • Caretaker boss Steve Agnew in charge of Middlesbrough

  • Swansea lost only once at home under Clement since January

  • Swansea five points ahead of Boro, who are in bottom three

  1. 'A very watchable match'published at 13:58 British Summer Time 2 April 2017

    Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

So far, it's not been a game massively abundant in quality but it's been an intriguing game.

The situation both these sides are in, makes it a very watchable match.

Another Gylfi Sigurdsson set-piece is cleared by Alvaro Negredo as Swansea begin to take a stranglehold on possession. The game's early cut and thrust has gone to be honest. Nerves setting in?

    Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Gylfi Sigurdsson puts in a brilliant free-kick which just needs a touch, Leroy Fer is one of the heads throwing themselves at it but Victor Valdes is able to nervously punch it clear!

Swansea's best moment. No surprise it came from the foot of the Icelander.

  4. 'Gylfi has a role'published at 13:53 British Summer Time 2 April 2017

    Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

    Leon Britton
    Swansea City midfielder

I think Gylfi Sigurdsson would prefer to be in a number 10 sort of position but the manager has found a role for him and is trying to keep some consistency in the centre of the park.

Celtic have a fourth, if you're interested. A cakewalk.

There's another booking as Fabio smashes into Luciano Narsingh, who has the same running action as Antonio Valencia.

Adama Traore is at it again, a lovely ball over the top this time to find Alvaro Negredo onside, but he is unable to gather it in with a first touch and the chance is gone.

  7. 'No width'published at 13:47 British Summer Time 2 April 2017

    Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

There is no real width in this Middlesbrough team here. Everyone is playing in the 18 yard box and that's why they are now having to bring the ball to their back four again.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 17 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Biggups indeed. Leroy Fer is the first man in the book, his ninth of the campaign, as he bodychecks Adama Traore.

Traore has moments in a game where he looks like a former Barcelona forward. He also has some where he looks like a former Barnstaple forward.

A minute later and Alfie Mawson clatters the winger. He should have been booked too.

Relegation scraps like these are often cagey, nervy affairs.

    Not this one.

Both sides have started brightly, with the game played at a great pace and intensity - all to the backdrop of a fervent atmosphere, with both sets of fans in fine voice.

It's three for Celtic - easy as you like as Stuart Armstrong bends in the third from 20 yards.

Chance for Boro! Gaston Ramirez finds Alvaro Negredo with a cutback but his shot is blocked, before Stewart Downing has one blocked seconds later.

Much, much better from Boro, who are playing a fluid attacking three behind Negredo.

Steve Agnew is the man in the Boro hotseat at the moment and he will be fairly pleased with this opening. Swansea have had the two best chances but for a team who don't score many, Boro have at least looked a threat.

Alvaro Negredo puts a cross in but Alfie Mawson clears.

Livewire Adama Traore drives through the heart of the Swansea defence but it comes to nothing - his season in a nutshell there.

Swansea then come back down the other end and Jordan Ayew stings the palms of Victor Valdes from 20 yards. It's a more open game than we may have expected. Boro opening up.

It's been a pretty bitty start in my opinion. No real fluency to the game yet.

Both sides feeling each other out. There are one or two players slightly out of position but we will have to wait and see how it plays out...

  16. CLOSE!published at 7 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Middlesbrough

Swansea managers may come and go but the, for want of a better word, 'identity' of the side remains the same. It's a patient build-up through midfield with the full-backs pushing on.

And that's close! Left-back Martin Olsson cuts in inside the area and flashes a shot over the top. Best chance so far.

A lovely flick from Alvaro Negredo starts a decent Boro counter attack, and Fabio's cross is headed away for a corner to the delight of the away fans. It's wasted though.

Paul Clement and his Swansea City players have an expectant audience watching from the stands today.

Swansea's American owners, Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan, are at the Liberty Stadium for the match against Boro.

Both will be at a Supporters' Trust's forum on Tuesday evening - answering fans' questions for the first time since buying a controlling stake of 68% in the club in July - and they'll be at the Liberty for Wednesday's game against Spurs too.

Niggly opening few minutes with a smattering of fouls in midfield and a handful of misplaced passes. Edgy. Defeat would be huge for either side and it shows in these opening exchanges.

Adama Traore is back in the Boro line-up with an amazing haircut. This photo doesn't really do it justice.
