John Dunthorne: haven't watched a Sunderland game for a few weeks, but now I understand why they are at the bottom. Confidence in pieces

El Sizzy: Pogba won't show up in big games and disappear in small games I just don't understand it

A penny for your thoughts, sir.

Five wins all season, David Moyes probably needs a minimum of five more to stand a chance of staying up.

Callum: Does Pogba's contract state that he's only allowed to pass to Ibra?

Omoba1: Same old, same old Man Utd lack of creativity in scoring goals

Bill Mike: How Lingaard is a Premier League player, that starts in midfield, for ManUtd and on £100K is beyond my understanding

Jermain Defoe is on the ball, but he's in his own right-back spot to tackle Luke Shaw and prevent a corner.

Great defending. But do Sunderland want their main striker back there?

Dan in London: United may not get Champions League football but if they win their games in hand they will go level with Liverpool currently 3rd. And let's not forget Europa league champions enter the Champions League

A quarter of the way through the game and not one moment for the MOTD2 editor to get excited about. Far from a classic, but David Moyes might not mind that. At this stage.

He needs a win though really. Got to get Jermain Defoe in the same postcode as the ball.

Former Newcastle keeper on BBC Radio 5 live

It's better from Sunderland. They really struggled in the first 10 minutes and Manchester United dominated play.

You can see it's reflected onto the fans, who have responded to Sunderland playing the ball a bit better and switching the play about.

These guys can't make their mind up, banners for Seb Larsson and Zlatan there.

They won't be happy to see Larsson ushered away from a free-kick, which Bryan Oviedo then fluffed.

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester United

Sunderland have now gone 10 hours without a Premier League goal. A foolproof way to get relegated right there.

The hosts are having a decent spell in midfield at least, Didier Ndong getting forwards to win a throw high up the pitch, but Jack Rodwell then fouls Ander Herrera.

The Manchester United fans are singing Andy Cole's name, he's had a kidney transplant this week.

Tim Stubbs: Man U playing in blue is just plain wrong

KN:  Man Utd are so slow to break away these days. All the time for Sunderland to reset just then.

Peter Malath: Now that Shaw started, is Mourinho going to run alongside him for the whole game telling him where to run?

First yellow card of the day goes to Luke Shaw for a particularly unwise challenge right through the back of Didier Ndong. Jose Mourinho looks bemused.

It's such a nice day and such a bad game so far. Nothing has happened - though Victor Anichebe has done well to win a Sunderland corner.

  15. A strong start from Jose...published at 12 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Manchester United

Jose Mourinho is clearly in overdrive. Luke Shaw is the most involved player on the pitch so far. He's had more touches (12) and made more passes (nine) than any other player. His passing accuracy of 67% isn't the best, though.

Colin J Lewis: Dear Manchester United fans, Wasn't it Fellaini who saved you from defeat against Liverpool recently? From a Liverpool fan

Al Marcuccilli: Mourinho will be judged next season. Needs to reach Europa final at the very least to prevent severe critiscism

Andrew Priestley: This is the sort of game that Paul Pogba should be dominating. He needs to kick-on and have a strong end to the season

Manchester United spring the ball nicely down their right but Matteo Darmian can't find an Antonio Valencia cross and it's easily dealt with.

David Moyes gives referee Craig Pawson a verbal volley as he jogs past as Luke Shaw gets away with kicking the ball away. Not sure why Jose Mourinho would have told him to do that.

Luke Shaw pings a corner very deep, beyond the far post, but it's kept alive and Jesse Lingard hits a low shot which ping-pongs around on the edge of the box. Marcos Rojo is fouled and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will line up a free-kick.

Sunderland launch a couple of hopeful balls over the top but they are easily swept up. Manchester United are bossing possession, captain Marouane Fellaini heavily involved in these early stages.
