    Crystal Palace 0-1 Burnley

    A let-off for Burnley.

Wilfried Zaha is sprung by a ball over the top from James Puncheon, leaving the Burnley defence in his wake.

Tom Heaton rushes out, takes out Zaha with an obvious foul, but the Clarets are saved by an offside.

A very tight call at best.

Well, that is already more incident than we managed in the first four Premier League games of the day.

Burnley's away shirt is quite a funky number by the way. Banana yellow with claret trim.

Maybe they would be doing better away from Turf Moor is they wore it every week.

This is not too clever from one fan.

As Burnley celebrate the opener in front of a section housing Palace supporters, centre-back James Tarkowski is hit on the head by what looks like a lighter flung from the stands.

He takes a seat for a moment, but is up and running.

Palace won't have heard the last of that though.

  4. Barnes profits on Palace soft centrepublished at 8 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Burnley

Without Mamadou Sakho, Scott Dann or James Tomkins, the centre of the Crystal Palace defence crumbles at the first sign of pressure.

Burnley get a little bit of luck as Ashley Barnes misses his initial kick at Sam Vokes' cross, but it is all too easy as he slots past Wayne Hennessey at the second attempt.

As reliable as daffodils and cherry blossom.

Christian Benteke's hot run of form always seems to coincide with spring and the Belgian striker rattles in a shot from 20 yards.

It is right off the laces, but central enough for Tom Heaton to be sure of reaching.

Wilfried Zaha pulls out of a challenge wincing. The Palace winger looks like he suffered a bit of toe-tread rather than anything serious though.

    He is up and running.

And Palace have started as brightly as the weather.

Christian Benteke drops free of his man at the far post, Patrick van Aanholt sweeps over the cross and Benteke meets it with a meaty header.

It bounces behind for a corner off the arm of Jeff Hendrick but the Burnley man could not have got out of the way of that.

    Accidental. Corner ball.

Blinking lovely day in south London. One to go to Tooting lido rather than Selhurst Park perhaps.

  10. Barton ban 'as short as possible'published at 17:28 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

Crystal Palace v Burnley (17:30 BST)

The Football Association says Joey Barton's 18-month suspension from all football activities was "the shortest possible" ban it could have imposed after he breached rules on gambling.

In the written reasons, external explaining Wednesday's decision, the FA revealed Barton placed 1,260 bets worth £205,172, at a loss of £16,708.

The 34-year-old Burnley midfielder has admitted he is addicted to gambling.

But the FA said a "dismissive attitude to the rules" was also a factor.

"His addiction may have distorted his thinking in part, but it is not a compete answer for this continued conduct," the FA said.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "It's now about everything we've learned over the season and delivering performances in these last four games.

"We as a club, without a shadow of a doubt, are in really good shape going into this last bunch of games.

"But we aren't naïve enough to think it takes care of itself, because it doesn't. We have to take care of what we need to."

Nerves will be jangling for this.

Realistically, Palace need one more win for safety. Six wins in eight games prior to Wednesday's defeat by Spurs suggests they have to form to do it against a Burnley side who have not won at Selhurst Park since 2001.

But injuries to Dann, Sakho and Tomkins leaves their defence looking vulnerable.

Burnley have slipped dangerously towards relegation again with just one win in 11. They've not gone a season without an away victory since 1903 but a first of the campaign will surely see them safe as well.

The Selhurst atmosphere and in-form Wilfred Zaha may edge it for Palace.

    Nearly, but not quite.

That just about sums up both sides' situation as they try and skirt around the Premier League trapdoor.

Another win should keep the wolf from the door for another year.

Right lads, it is all on you.

After just two goals in the day's opening four games, highlights packages around the broadcasting industry need Palace and Burnley to provide some of those sweet, sweet scoring scenes.

    About that.

Palace have scored only seven goals in their past eight home games.

And Burnley have an away record so sterile you could conduct science experiments on it. They have scored only 10 goals in 17 away games this season, picking up just four points.

Time for the rule-proving exception? Here's hoping.
