    "We started the game very well. But then they started to bring it more towards out goal more.

    "We conceded a lot of set-pieces, but defended them brilliantly.

    Newcastle won't believe they didn't win tonight. They had 22 shots to Leeds' four.

    But Rob Green made at least three fine saves and the Leeds defence put their bodies on the line to keep themselves in the game at times.

    Burton 1-2 Ipswich

    Away from that late drama at St James' Park, Ipswich held on to beat Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

    It was a frantic finish, with Burton hitting the bar late on, but Mick McCarthy's side all-but secure survival by moving nine points clear of the drop.

    Burton are 21st and in big trouble, just two points above Blackburn.

    That point lifts Leeds up to fourth, above Reading on goal difference. The Royals play tomorrow.

    Newcastle, in second, are eight points above third-placed Huddersfield, who have a game in hand. But it was so, so nearly a 10-point gap for the Magpies.

    That draw also leaves Brighton four points clear the at top. The title is in the Seagulls' hands.
