Celtic's Leigh Griffiths was looking pensive beside Steven Fletcher as they vie with others to start up front for Gordon Strachan's side.

First, the forward's fine cross flashes dangerously across the United six-yard box and, when the ball is fired into the penalty box, Magennis finds himself in space only for his shot to be charged down at point-blank range by goalkeeper Cammy Bell.

St Mirren win a free-kick 22 yards from goal. There is much anticipation among the Buddies fans knowing Stevie Mallan's reputation at dead balls, but the midfielder curls his effort well over the crossbar and the cheers turn to groans.

No matter what you say about Simon Murray, he is full of endeavour and the United striker powers towards the United penalty box and unleashes a low drive a couple of yards wide.

It is the Buddies fans who are being heard as the Paisley side begin to apply some pressure of their own for the first time, leading to a muted claim for a penalty as the ball cannons off United's Stewart Murdoch.
