  1. A season to forget for Orientpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

Leyton Orient v Hartlepool (15:00 BST)

If Leyton Orient fail to beat Hartlepool today, the London club's 112-year stay in the Football League will be at an end.

How different things could have been if a League One play-off final penalty shootout had gone their way in 2014. But they lost to Rotherham and it's been quickly downhill since then.

Orient have had five different managers this season, while the O's are in turmoil off the field, with winding-up orders and financial issues threatening the very existence of the club.

They are back in court in June, by which time they are expected to be contemplating life in the National League.

    Tales of promotion and relegation

Rachel Armitage: Got dragged to a rugby match on the day Wolves beat Crewe to secure promotion back to the Championship, was so hard to concentrate!

Louis: Yeovil winning the League One play-off final in 2012-2013 to be promoted to the Championship.

Tunde Read: That Deeney goal, then promotion, then the great escape, then Premier League champions. It all started with that goal.

Leicester have had some journey over the past few years!

The man who missed the penalty for Leicester in that play-off semi-final classic against Watford in 2013? It was Anthony Knockaert.

This time last year Gary Caldwell was preparing for celebrations with Wigan as they won the League One title - now he's set to taste relegation at Chesterfield.

Brought into the club in January to replace Danny Wilson when the Spireites were in the relegation zone, the Scot has been unable to lift his squad out of the bottom four.

Should they go down today, it will end a three-year stay in the third tier, during which time Paul Cook, Dean Saunders, Wilson and Caldwell have all had spells in charge.

    Brighton v Wigan (15:00 BST)

    Steve Harper
Former Newcastle goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live

Brighton have been the pick of the bunch for consistency. Newcastle have thrown in an unexpected result now and again.

I'm delighted for Chris Hughton. I was in the Newcastle side that he took up (in 2010) and kept up.

We were comfortably 12th when he lost his job (at Newcastle) but he's a really very underrated manager, a great football man and I'm delighted to see him do well.

Plymouth Argyle were in administration when they suffered a second successive relegation and dropped into the fourth tier in 2011.

The Devon club have rebuilt since then and, after two failed play-off campaigns in the past two seasons, are on the brink of automatic promotion to the third tier.

Derek Adams' side have been in the top three for almost all of the campaign and need just a point against Newport to go up with three games to spare.

Some Leyton Orient fans are staging protests before their League Two game with fellow strugglers Hartlepool.

Owner Francesco Becchetti is the central focus of their frustrations on the day they could drop out of the Football League.

It was 1983 when Brighton were last in the top flight of English football.

Today, the Seagulls host relegation-threatened Wigan, knowing that a long-awaited return to the Premier League is within their grasp.

All they need to do is win or draw, and hope that Huddersfield can't match that result at play-off hopefuls Derby.

If the Seagulls do win, they will have to wait for later in the day before any potential celebrations can start, as Huddersfield's game gets going at 17:00 BST.

There's the possibility of the Sheffield derby returning to the football calendar next season, although Wednesday will hope to follow their city rivals by winning promotion themselves in the next few weeks.

    Tales of promotion and relegation

Adam Dodson: Leeds coming from a goal and a man down to beat Bristol Rovers to finally get back to the Championship in 2010.

Matt Price: Would love to see Brighton in the Premier League but their confirmation of promotion may have to wait. Can't see Huddersfield losing.

Worth pointing out that a Brighton win today should be enough for them to go up, given there's a 31-goal difference between themselves and Huddersfield. However, until it's mathematically certain...

  12. League Two ups and downspublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

    Plymouth fansImage source, Rex Features

Plymouth and Portsmouth are looking likely to join Doncaster in League One next season, and both clubs could confirm promotion to the third tier today.

A draw at home to Newport will be enough to send second-placed Argyle up. If they lose, they will only be denied promotion today by a Luton victory at Mansfield.

Portsmouth, who are third, will be promoted if they win at Notts County and Luton fail to win.

At the bottom, only a win for Leyton Orient against Hartlepool will be enough for them to stave off relegation to the National League.

Birmingham v Burton: 19th-placed Birmingham bring in Cheick Keita as their only change from the team that drew at Rotherham. Burton, who are two places below Blues, make four changes including striker Luke Varney coming in.

Blackburn v Bristol City: Blackburn have named the same starting XI that beat Nottingham Forest on Friday. Bristol City boss Lee Johnson also fields an unchanged side after successive victories.

Cardiff v Nottingham Forest: Cardiff bring Lee Peliter, Peter Wittingham and Anthony Pilkington into their starting line-up. Nottingham Forest, who are just two points above the relegation zone, add forward Mustapha Carayol amongst three changes.

The Blades are already confirmed as third-tier champions and at the bottom Coventry have been relegated, while the writing is on the wall for Chesterfield.

Gary Caldwell's side have to win at play-off chasing Scunthorpe today to keep their very slim hopes of staying up alive, or they will be relegated back to the fourth tier.

Scunthorpe and Fleetwood could be confirmed in play-off spots this afternoon, while Bolton will be looking on hoping they could be in a position to wrap up promotion to the Championship by beating Bury tomorrow.

Reading v Rotherham: Reading make four changes with Joseph Mendes, who scored twice in Saturday’s win at Aston Villa, dropping to the bench. Relegated Rotherham bring in Tom Adeyemi for Joe Newell as their only change from the draw with Birmingham.

While Brighton's possible promotion will be our main focus, their result against Wigan could have big ramifications at the bottom of the Championship. The Latics have won their past two games and given their fans hope of escaping relegation.

Just seven points separate 18th-placed Bristol City and Wigan in 23rd with four games to go. Rotherham's relegation is already confirmed, of course.

In the play-off race, seventh-placed Fulham will be hoping to put pressure on the teams above them in the slightly earlier 14:45 BST kick-off against Aston Villa. Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds, Reading and Huddersfield occupy the play-off spots at the start of play.
