    Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland boss David Moyes speaking to BBC Sport: "We were full of character and commitment. We made it difficult for Arsenal for long periods and had good chances. We played well but Arsenal had the class to make the difference.

"Saturday's game against Sunderland was not like I'd seen in the last month or so. Tonight we got a good performance and if we got the first goal it could have been completely different.

"After I got in in August I didn’t think we had a squad capable. But it was what we've got, you have to try and ultimately we wre just short.

"I’ll speak with chairman Ellis Short over the next few days. I've given him an indication of what we need to do and we’ll look to see if that’s possible."

    Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland

Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi: "We knew we had to win the game. We've been in a good run and wanted to keep that going. It was not easy.

"We had a lot of opportunities and made it harder than it was. We needed concentration.

On the empty seats in the Emirates: "As soon as you go in there it's not abut how many empty seats there are in the stadium. It was an important three points and that's all that counted.

"We know everything is possible and we have to go until the end."

Pablo Zabaleta is given a guard of honour as he walks off the pitch and the Etihad soon empties.

The star of the show during his presentation was definitely his little boy, Asier, who threw a strop throughout.

Pablo Zabaleta has just been presented with a Manchester City season-card for life.

A hug and a kiss from his wife Christel (and a final failed attempt to get his son Asier to stop playing with his toy in the centre-circle and and do the same) and his speech ends with a simple tribute to the City supporters: "From the bottom of my heart, thank-you to the fans."

Then his team-mates get hold of him and give him the bumps.

  9. Maths headachepublished at 22:25 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

We have a maths genius in the office tonight who's helping us out with the permutations for the Champions League places.

    We've already spoken about a Liverpool-Arsenal play-off but...

If Manchester City draw their final game 3-3 at Watford, and Liverpool win 3-0 against Middlesbrough, then City and Liverpool would finish joint third with identical records: 76 points, 78 goals scored, 42 goals conceded.

Premier League rules state: "If at the end of the season either the league champions or the clubs to be relegated or the question of qualification for other competitions cannot be determined because two or more clubs are equal on points, goal difference and goals scored, the clubs concerned shall play off one or more deciding league matches on neutral grounds, the format, venue and timing of which shall be determined by the board."

So with third place earning a Champions League group stage and fourth place entering the play-off round, this would force a third/fourth place play-off.

    Got it? Good.

Andy Brown:  Also if Liverpool were to win 3-0 and City draw 3-3 then would have to be a play off for 3rd and with it automatic group stage.

Abdul Said: So many mathematicians tonight, I hope this calculation continue during next week's GCSE exams, good for practice

  11. 'It was a dream'published at 22:18 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Manchester City 3-0 West Brom

    Manchester City

Pablo Zabaleta on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium: "As a football player and as a football fan it was a dream to come to the Premier League.

"I said to my girlfriend, now my wife, let me go to Manchester, I will enjoy it, it will be only for three or four years, so I'll have to say sorry, it's been nine years.

"My favourite moments were when we beat Manchester United in the semi-final at Wembley and the first Premier League we won with Sergio Aguero's goal. The fans had waited so long and we did it in a City way."

  12. Pablo's favourite moment? "Beating United"published at 22:16 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Chris Bevan

Emotional scenes at the Etihad Stadium as Pablo Zabaleta fights back the tears as he makes his farewell speech... then huge cheers as he says that his favourite moment was beating neighbours Manchester United in the semi-finals of the 2011 FA Cup.

  13. 'Time for Arsene to say goodbye'published at 22:14 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on Football Focus

I think Arsene Wenger has been great for them but it's just time to say goodbye.

But I think he will sign for another two years.

  14. 'We've got in on the final day many times'published at 22:11 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger speaking to BBC Sport: "We had plenty of shots on goal but we needed to be patient. We were frustrated at half-time not to be leading.

"We made 71 points and were second. We now have 72 and want to go to 75. After that you deal with what happens.

"We've got in on the final day many times. Sunderland fought and you want that in the Premier League - that’s what you want from every team.

"We had a difficult patch after the Bayern game because it was difficult to recover. On the other hand it was a good mental test and we responded in a strong way."

  15. Zabaleta says goodbye to Citypublished at 22:09 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Manchester City 3-0 West Brom

Pablo Zabaleta is walking back on to the pitch to a huge reception from the Etihad.

He's got his young son with him who is bawling his eyes out. Not impressed by his dad's farewell at all.

There's also a guy in the stands whose bottom lip is out. Dry your eyes, mate.

Manchester City 3-1 West Brom; Arsenal 2-0 Sunderland

Here's how the top of the table looks after tonight's results.

Arsenal are still in with a chance of a top four place but it's in the hands of Manchester City and Liverpool.

However, there are permutations in which there could be a play-off for fourth spot - that could happen, for example, if Arsenal draw 1-1 with Everton and Liverpool lose 2-0 to Middlesbrough.

    Confused? Yep, us too.

    Manchester City 3-1 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on Football Focus

I think it's been a tale of two halves this season for City.

Started off well, we thought they would run away with the league.

But change of formation, change of tactics, it was like Pep had never managed before.

    But then the penny dropped.

Charlie Wetton: Quite frankly, if Sanchez wants the stadium renamed after him and to rip down Henry and Bergkamp statues for him I would do it.

Andrew Neill: If WBA's shocking form had started a week earlier Arsene would already be planning his CL quality signings for the summer.

Andy Brown: Anyone else want Arsenal to draw 1-1 and Liverpool to lose 2-0 on last day of season to force a super play off?
