  1. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland

Monreal is having a mare! Post backpass gate, he clips Seb Larsson and gifts Sunderland a free-kick about 20 yards out.

Monreal gets a yellow card and so too does Mesut Ozil for time wasting.

    Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland

Mesut Ozil has 20-20 vision to spot Aaron Ramsey rushing into a dangerous position but it's cleared by Sunderland.

    Strange game, this.

It is almost as if Arsenal have had a sedative at half-time. They have not come out. They have been sloppy and it has given the impetus to Sunderland.

    Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland

You can't say Arsenal didn't create anything in that first half. These clusters around the Sunderland goal in the graphic below show the Gunners were popping off the shots. Eighteen, to be precise.

But only five - shown by the green arrows - were on target.

Antony Evans: Wonderful to hear Sir Trevor Brooking's voice on the radio tonight. Speaks with such wisdom.

Ahmed Ashour: Arsenal don't deserve to qualify for CL. The last few decent games can not mask an awful season we had.

Billy Boy: Seem to be lots of fans dressed at red seats at the Emirates tonight.

  6. 'Could have been three, four or five'published at 20:52 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Manchester City 2-0 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender at Etihad Stadium

It was awkward for a while for City, as we would expect with West Brom.

We said if City scored the first goal, it would make it difficult for West Brom. What they didn't expect was the second goal.

It could have been three, four or five. We could still get that.

That was a comedy playhouse. Nacho Monreal, who is very left-footed, could have played it across the pitch with his right foot.

But he goes back to Petr Cech, who had to scoop the ball away with his hand.

I'm coming up to my late 60s and I've never seen anything like that. It was absolutely ludicrous!

Because Cech palmed it, Roger East has awarded a less-spotted indirect free-kick to Sunderland in the penalty area. How exciting!

It's two yards from the goal-line, really near the post.

Seb Larsson takes it on the right and scoops it up with his foot to get it over the wall of red shirts and try and find a team-mate's head, but Granit Xhaka heads it over.

  9. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland

We are back under way and there's drama already!

Nacho Monreal makes a ridiculous back pass to Petr Cech, but it's close to going on target! Cech has to scramble back and palm it wide!

That was almost one of the worst own goals you'll ever see.

West Brom are defending soooo deep.

Salomon Rondon is the furthest forward Baggies player and his average position is on the half-way line.

Manchester City would appear to have this game won already but there is no reduction in Pep Guardiola's intensity.

During a brief break in play he called skipper Vincent Kompany over to deliver some instructions with the now familiar whirlwind arm movements.

    He really is a perfectionist.

  13. 'Looks like City have an extra man'published at 20:41 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Manchester City 2-0 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender at Etihad Stadium

He should have scored for a man of his quality. The way the ball set up for Aguero, with no pressure. Either side of the goalkeeper, it goes in.

It seems every time Man City come forward they create an opportunity. It looks like they have an extra man.

  14. Postpublished at 20:41 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    Manchester City 2-0 West Brom

David Silva and Sergio Aguero play a one-two and although West Brom momentarily regain possession, it doesn't last.

Aguero has the ball back at his feet and let's rip from 18 yards. Ben Foster's there again to make the key save.

Next up, it's Leroy Sane who has a go at goal for City. The German sticks his effort from the edge of the area over the bar.

David Jay: Shame Sunderland didn't play like this all season, maybe they might have survived.

Wayne Ellis: A team who are 8th in the PL showing absolutely no ambition. Pretty gutless from WBA.

Daniel Woodley: One of the most underrated players in the Premier League is Kevin De Bruyne. City have themselves a world class player.

    Manchester City 2-0 West Brom

    Mark Lawrenson

Kompany doesn't want to come off.

I hope it's just a knock but he's gone down to his calf so maybe not. But if it was his calf, he's so experienced that he'd know.

Vincent Kompany looked to be limping quite badly a few minutes ago but he seems to be OK now. The Man City captain is now having a word with manager Pep Guardiola, who gesticulates wildly.

Kevin De Bruyne - he of Manchester City assist then goal fame - has a go from distance but Ben Foster makes a decent stop.

Ten minutes off the first half left to play at the Etihad.

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

It is unforgivable that Bellerin didn't hit the target. If you're a Premier League footballer from seven yards have to hit it. You have got to go for the far corner not the near post.
