Kyle Utterson: Ridiculous that Puel's future is being talked about. They could finish 8th and were unlucky to lose a cup final.

Dan Pinch: if Jose is really that irksome about playing tonight, why doesn't he just play the kids? He loves a bit of drama doesn't he.

    Irksome is a great word

Paul Pogba will sit this match out, as he did against Tottenham, following the death of his father.

Fassou Antoine Pogba passed away at the age of 79 after a long illness.

The Manchester United forward posted a video of his dad on Instagram earlier, with the message: "Thank you to The American Hospital of Paris and to the Christie Clinic in Manchester for all the care to my dad. Go Daddy, we're the Pogbance."

Demetri Mitchell - a name you might not be familiar with - will line-up on Manchester United's bench this evening.

The 20-year-old takes his place on the sidelines for a third time this season - having been named in the senior travelling squad against Arsenal and also on the subs bench against Tottenham on Sunday.

    But who is he?

Born in Manchester, the youngster has been in impressive form for the under-23s this season.

He progressed through United's academy ranks and was originally a forward, but has moved to the left side of the defence for the under 23s this season.

Mourinho is following through on his plans to rest players ahead of the Europa League final and Mitchell is one beneficiary.

Will he get on? Don't rule it out.

Another squad reshuffle for Southampton tonight, following their win over Middlesbrough.

There's no place in the squad for David de Gea. The Man United goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, external this week.

Sergio Romero starts in his place, as one of four changes from the defeat by Spurs. Matteo Darmian, Marouane Fellaini and Henrikh Mkhitaryan come in for Daley Blind, Michael Carrick and Jesse Lingard.

Youngster Demetri Mitchell makes the bench again. More on him shortly...

  6. Puel's future up for discussionpublished at 19:09 British Summer Time 17 May 2017

Southampton v Manchester United (19:45 BST)

Claude Puel's future as Southampton boss will be decided at the end of the season, according to chairman Ralph Krueger.

Although Saints can still secure another top-eight finish, and reached the League Cup final, speculation remains about Puel's role.

"The time for a football analysis is next week, after the season [is over]," Krueger told BBC Radio Solent.

"If we, for the fourth season in a row, end up in the top half of the table, that's a good record to build on."

There's been reports that some fans are unhappy with Puel's squad rotation and style of play,

The Frenchman responded to questions on the issue by saying: "I cannot understand the speculation because when I see all of the fans on the street they are happy to see me, and tell me congratulations."

  7. Southampton's seasonpublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 17 May 2017

Southampton v Manchester United (19:45 BST)

If it's a school report card, you'd probably award Southampton a steady C grade.

Claude Puel was always going to have a lot to live up to, given Ronald Koeman led the Saints to a top six place and European qualification before leaving to join Everton.

Frenchman Puel endured a testing start to life in the Premier League - he had to wait five games before his first win - but his side - one of the youngest in the division - were never really in any danger of finishing anywhere but mid-table.

By far their greatest achievement of the season was overcoming four Premier League teams to reach the EFL Cup final at Wembley, where they lost to tonight's opponents.
