Well there you have it. Nineteen years in the top flight of English football's non-league are over for Forest Green.

Kaiyne Woolery's brace and Christian Doidge's superb strike were enough to give the Gloucestershire side a Football League place next season.

For Tranmere their exile outside the Football League continues, but I'm sure they will have a day like Forest Green are having soon enough.

"It's absolutely tremendous. To score two goals at Wembley as well is quite unbelievable.

"We had to work really hard in the second half but it's a huge achievement for this club and we stuck to the plan and believed in ourselves."

The Gloucestershire men go wild in the corner. What a moment for them, after 19 years in the National League.

They're up via the play-offs at their third attempt. And they're over the moon.

Tranmere's fans have been singing "Tranmere til I die." They'll be back soon, surely.

Forest Green goalscorer Kaiyne Woolery told BT Sport: "This group has great togetherness, great team spirit. We had a chance to win the league but threw it away, and have come back.

"To lose (the promotion final) two times in a row was never going to happen and I'm glad we got over the line finally."

Last season Forest Green were losing finalists. This year they celebrate as winners.

The longest-serving side in the National League have been promoted to the fFootball League for the first time in their history.

Nailsworth will be the smallest population ever to host a Football League club.

Delight for Forest Green. Despair for Tranmere.

Still no whistle and Tranmere have a corner...

Another ball is curled into the Forest Green box, but again Sam Russell is on hand to grab hold of it.

He's excelled in the Forest Green goal today.

Forest Green are nearly there. Daniel Wishart wins a free-kick on the edge of his own area to ease the pressure on the Gloucestershire side.

Their Football League wait is nearly over.

Forest Green captain Liam Noble is not endearing himself to Tranmere, and gets a yellow card for getting in the way of another drop ball.

The ball is then pumped forward by Tranmere, but left-back Liam Ridehalgh fires a volley well over.

Charlie Cooper is not best pleased as he is accidentally trodden on by a Tranmere player, causing others to rush in to their team-mates aid.

Then from the resulting drop ball, Tranmere are not happy with Liam Noble's decision to kick the ball out of play rather than kick it back to the keeper. Jeff Hughes knocks over Noble, but it's all rather silly.

We're into five added minutes.

Jack Dunn has caused problems this afternoon, but not there. He turned his defender and got it on his right foot, but fired well wide of the mark.

Andy Cook, in the middle, is furious with his Tranmere team-mate.

Tranmere win a free-kick in a good position on the right, but Adam Buxton's ball into the area doesn't beat the first man and Tranmere midfielder Jeff Hughes' touch is poor and he gives away a foul.

It's just eeking away from Rovers now, and their fans are quiet.

Tranmere finished above Forest Green in the table, on a club record 95 points, but Micky Mellon's side just cannot find a way through Mark Cooper's men.

Forest Green owner Dale Vince said their eventual promotion to the Football League was inevitable. Is today the day that happens?

Weak calls for a penalty by Tranmere as Andy Cook goes down when going up for the ball in the air with Mark Ellis but the ref really isn't interested.

Tranmere need to ramp this up now. Forest Green will be rather happy with this at the moment.

There are 18,801 fans in attendance at Wembley today, the vast majority of which are Tranmere fans.

They have just seen their man Jeff Hughes have a try at goal from a tight angle, but Sam Russell is equal to it.

Tranmere are throwing bodies forward but it's leaving them slightly exposed at the back.

When Forest Green clear, Kaiyne Woolery is set through one-on-one against Steve McNulty, but the cult hero Tranmere defender holds firm against the forward.

Woolery then goes down with cramp. Not exactly endearing himself to Tranmere fans there...
