Ipswich Town debutant Joe Garner gave his new side all three points against Birmingham City.

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk: "It was a nice way to start the season.

"We've played well today. If I had one ambition for this season then, aside from to win games, it would be to play better. I know we were hopeless last year so we needed that as a club and a team and I needed it as well.

"Joe Garner will always be judged on his goals no matter what else he does. I've always admired him from afar and I'm loving him now he's here."

It's my mum's birthday today and she was in the crowd, so it makes it extra special to score. Obviously we got our foot in the game and got the point I think we deserved.

We wanted to win today to start with three points, but it was important we didn't lose. You always want to get off the mark as soon as possible so it was nice to score here today. And to score for my friend (Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme), who is suffering from Leukemia, was nice.

But, Hull put in a much better display after the break and were rewarded by Jarrod Bowen's volley to level it.

Villa press once more, but can't quite find the pin-point ball.

Josh Onomah almost finds himself in for a debut goal, but had strayed just a touch offside inside the Hull box from a flick on.

    Nelson OliveiraImage source, Rex Features

Norwich came from a goal behind to claim a point at Fulham thanks to a late equaliser from sub Nelson Oliviera.

The Portuguese was booked for his celebration after running to the Canaries bench and taking his shirt off to show new Norwich boss Daniel Farke the number on the back.

Farke told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I think he wants to be in the starting 11. He's a passionate guy. I'm relaxed about it, we'll talk a little bit about it but I am content.

"I'm really full of emotion and proud of the lads. We faced an away game against one of the best opponents in the league without a lot of experienced players.

    "I think 1-1 was a fair result."

Glenn Whelan will be fortunate to see out this game baring in mind he's on a yellow card and doesn't seem to want to rein in his tendency for full-blooded challenges.

David Meyler is the latest man to tussle with him, but neither side manages to capitalise on the space coming forward.
