  1. City need to up the ante after the breakpublished at 18:25 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Brighton 0-0 Man City

    Chris Bevan
BBC Sport at the Amex Stadium

Match of the Day pundit Kevin Kilbane described City as ‘the hottest ticket in town’ when he tipped them to win the league earlier this week but they are going to have to do an awful lot more going forward in the second half if they are going to win this match, let alone earn a reputation as great entertainers this season.

Still, given where they are playing, it is probably quite fitting that so far their performance has been more 'end of the pier' than anything you would expect to see in Hollywood.

So far, so good for Brighton though. They have kept it tight at the back, and had a couple of sniffs up front - probably almost as much as the fans I spoke to before kick-off were hoping for from their first 45 minutes in the Premier League against a team of City’s calibre.

Chris: Even the City players looked bored.

Jason Bell: City carrying on from last season. Plenty of possession, plenty of passes, but no end game. Deja vu.

Michael Ball: Pep Guardiola looks like he missed the cut at the US PGA and flew straight to Gatwick without getting changed.

You can't deny Pep loves to make an effort though, Michael!

Danilo whips in a right-footed cross from the left but it's past everyone and into the hands of Mat Ryan. Seconds left.

Lewis Dunk heads the ball in the air from the free-kick and Ederson in Manchester City's goal can catch it. Unsure if that counts as a shot or not.

It is Pep Guardiola's selection and we've had enough possession. I can't even complain about a lack of clinical finishing because we haven't even created that kind of chance, so that needs to be rectified. We haven't been in and around the box at all.

Brighton almost have a chance here as Dale Stephens' angled ball over the top just bounces beyond Jamie Murphy. It was very close to being their first opportunity.

I think we'll be seeing Brighton skill man Anthony Knockaert at some stage today. The winger was a doubt for today with an ankle injury but is on the bench. He scored 15 goals last season and was named Championship player of the year.

Great play by Brighton's record signing (for the next couple of days anyway) Davy Propper to break forward from midfield but then he passes to Pascal Gross, who plays it past everyone and wide.

Bright Eugene: I expected Man City to be, at least, 4 goals up by now. This is Brighton.

O Cube: City are exactly same from last season! Boring. If this is what they have to offer, they should expect another trophy-less run.

Paul Salmon: Deliberate handball from Jesus. Should have been red.

So close to an opener for City. Sergio Aguero crosses and this time Gabriel Jesus goes for it with his head and not his hand. It looks like it's going in but Mat Ryan, who was diving the other way, keeps it out with his left hand. Jesus puts the rebound wide, maybe it just clipped the post.

Kevin de Bruyne has another 30-yard free-kick but slams this one straight into the wall. Bruno initially goes down after getting a smack of the ball but he pops back up and is OK to play on.
