    Brighton 0-0 Man City

It's all Brighton now (in the last 60 seconds). From their corner, Shane Duffy has a shot which is deflected just wide. Ederson flaps at their next corner (uh oh for City fans), Lewis Dunk has a shot blocked - and then another shot blocked. And then another Albion player fires a 25-yard shot wide.

Steve Smith: Unfortunately, City have not adjusted to the 'park the bus' mentality. One goal for City will be enough. Shame on Brighton.

Dan Webster: Why this obsession with 3 at the back? Okay, it worked for Chelsea but looks rubbish for everyone else.

    Brighton 0-0 Man City

Brighton have an attack! And they have a corner. Jamie Murphy is played in down the left, but he has to wait an age for anyone to join him. Eventually City get the ball out before Markus Suttner can head a cross home.

Sergio Aguero has scuffed it wide. I am giving Lewis Dunk some credit there for forcing him to put it wide. If Dunk didn't put him off, Aguero would have netted that 99 times out of 100.

    Brighton 0-0 Man City

Manchester City should be ahead here but Sergio Aguero makes a mess of a shot that goes high and wide. Shane Duffy accidentally plays in the Argentine with a shocking pass backwards, but Aguero - under pressure from Lewis Dunk - gets it all wrong inside the box.

  6. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 52 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Man City

Gabriel Jesus has the ball in the net for a second time, he taps a cross into an empty net, but it's ruled out for offside.

    Brighton 0-0 Man City

Mat Ryan (with 17) has actually made more passes than any outfield Brighton player.

    Brighton 0-0 Man City

City are spraying the ball around. It eventually ends up with Fernandinho shooting from 30 yards and a diving Mat Ryan being able to hold onto the shot.

If you had asked me if I would like to see Leroy Sane playing, the answer will be an emphatic yes. Danilo is there and I do not think right-footed left backs are useful in any system, let alone three at the back, but I would be playing Sane, definitely.

Brighton's Tomer Hemed is bundled over by Kyle Walker - looks over to the ref like a child wanting their parent to settle a sibling dispute. No free-kick.

Brighton took the kick-off but lost the ball after about four seconds. Fernandinho plays a ball over the top of David Silva, but he can't control it.

Dimos: City on route to being the first top-six team not to concede three on the opening day. Pep. Genius.

Tony: Silva and De Bruyne have not been able to generate enough forward ball to the two strikers. When they have, Aguero and Gabriel keep losing it because there's no support. Expecting Sane and Sterling to come on.

The Reap AP: Simple... Snoozefest City...

Brighton have done so well with work-rate off the ball. Defensive and organisation spot on.

Here are the touch maps from the first half. You can probably guess which is which. City have had the ball a lot more - and in much better positions. But it's still goalless.

    Brighton 0-0 Man City

Man City had 76% of the ball in the first half - and nine shots, but only two on target. Brighton have only had that one effort - technically on target - but a ghost would have been able to stop Lewis Dunk's header. Hell, even Claudio Bravo would have kept it out.

    Fred Eyre

It will do Brighton's confidence a bit of good at half-time. They know what is expected in the second half. If I was in Chris Hughton's shoes, I would be pleased.

It has not been a poor first half, it has just not been exhilarating from City's point of view. Kyle Walker has been outstanding and he has looked very impressive.

Johnny Magrinho: Well that was horribly drab. Manchester City still on holiday I think. Far too leisurely & complacent. No easy games remember...

Joe: Can really see Louis van Gaal's influence on Guardiola. Very dull.

MUFC believer: Brighton doing good so far,but I don't see them holding off much longer. Proved me wrong this first half though.

Thankfully the rest of this afternoon's games made up for the lack of goals at the Amex...
