It was the simplest of tasks for Mane.

I think we should credit Jurgen Klopp. He has basically stuck four up front and it has forced Palace back and opened up the midfield for Liverpool.

    Stoke v Arsenal (17:30 BST)

Stoke hand a Premier League debut to new loan signing Jese as one of two changes from the team that lost 1-0 to Everton on Saturday. Saido Berahino is the man who makes way, while Bojan also drops out as Cameroon winger Eric Choupo-Moting makes his first start for the club.

Arsenal make two changes to the side that beat Leicester 4-3 at home last Friday.

Out goes Rob Holding, with Shkodran Mustafi taking his place in the back three, and Aaron Ramsey also comes in to replace Mohamed Elneny in central midfield.

And there is still no Alexis Sanchez, who is not fit enough to make the Gunners squad. Olivier Giroud, match-winner against the Foxes, is on the bench though.

    Javier Hernandez (74 mins)

What a penalty-area striker this little man is! Aaron Cresswell's cross from the left is headed on goal, I think by a Southampton defender. Fraser Forster makes a blinding save from point-blank range to push it on to the crossbar but Javier Hernandez is so sharp, he sticks out a foot and fires the volley into the roof of the net.

    Richarlison (73 mins)

The breakthrough! And, to be fair, Watford just about deserve it.

Andre Gray crosses in low from the right and Brazilian winger Richarlison, signed in the summer from Fluminese, slides in to fumble home his first goal for the club at the second attempt after his initial effort was blocked.

    Sadio Mane (73 mins)

And Liverpool take the lead with a scruffy goal of their own! The ball is helped on, a tackle won on the edge of the box and Sadio Mane reacts first to stretch and toe the ball home from close range.

    Hal Robson-Kanu (71 mins)

Breakthrough! And it is the Wales international who does the business off the bench. A gloriously retro goal as the ball is smashed into orbit, nodded on by Matt Phillips and Hal Robson-Kanu gets there before the covering defender and finishes at the near post.

    Liverpool 0-0 Crystal Palace

Liverpool at last exert some serious pressure on the Palace goal, Sadio Mane gets a shot away under pressure, it's blocked by James Tomkins but runs to Gigi Wijnaldum inside the area. He needs to hit it first time but dallies on the ball and is soon charged down.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Watford

Still no goals at Bournemouth as Andre Gray's cross is palmed away by Asmir Begovic. Not much between the two sides, who have both had a solitary shot on target in this half.

As far as Coutinho is concerned, he knew that his contract did not have a release clause. If he wanted one, his representatives should have negotiated on that basis. As I see it he doesn't have a leg to stand on. He should honour the contract and stay.

Will Liverpool miss Philippe Coutinho if he leaves? On this evidence, yes. But we knew that already

    Leicester 2-0 Brighton

The away fans get their wish. Anthony Knockaert is introduced to the fray and both Leicester and Brighton fans are on their feet to applaud the Frenchman, who replaces Pascal Gross.

Knockaert played for Leicester for three years from 2012 and the Foxes fans start up a chant of "he's just too good for you" as he comes on.

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

It's very 0-0 at Turf Moor. Maybe Hal Robson-Kanu can bring a piece of Euro 2016 magic to the game. He's on for James McClean. An unhappy James McClean.

Any Brighton fans out there fancy helping me understand why Anthony Knockaert started on the bench? His creativity has been what Brighton have missed so far. The away fans are chanting his name, they want him on now.

Wooosh! Manolo Gabbiadini has not too many options when he picks the ball up so he simply lets fly left-footed from 25 yards, beating Joe Hart but not the top of the bar!

At the other end Javier Hernandez shoots wide from a similar distance.

  18. CLOSE!published at 16:16 British Summer Time 19 August 2017

    Bournemouth 0-0 Watford

Nathaniel Chalobah, unless he scores after this entry, will probably give Match of the Day a miss tonight because he has just failed to put away an absolute sitter.

The midfielder is through on goal and has loads of time to pick his spot, perhaps too much time as he hesitates long enough for Asmir Begovic to close the gap down and Chalobah ends up shooting straight at the Bournemouth keeper.

Big chance! You've got to score that!

Christian Benteke has scored more goals at Anfield as an away player than he managed as a Liverpool one, and that should be another.

Superb play from Ruben Loftus-Cheek though to motor away down the right and cut the ball back for the Belgian, who puts it over the bar from close range.

Has to score. At the other end Roberto Firmino lashes over from a tight angle.
