    Stoke 0-0 Arsenal

It took Arsene Wenger more than 15 minutes to emerge from the dugout. Not surprising as this venue certainly is not his favourite.

It's been a lively start to the game and Stoke look very open at the back.

What were Arsenal thinking? They have been excellent but they committed too many men forward.

  3. CHANCE!published at 21 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Arsenal

But here come Stoke on the counter!

Jese drives the ball forward - past about four Arsenal players chasing back. He gets to the penalty box, wide on the right, cuts back to Eric Choupo-Moting, but the Cameroon man can only shoot meekly at Petr Cech.

    That was a chance.

    Stoke 0-0 Arsenal

Stoke are in retreat now, this is all Arsenal.

Danny Welbeck forces a point-blank save from Jack Butland, the Gunners recycle from the clearance and Hector Bellerin is played in on the left, but Mame Biram Diouf's lunge knocks the ball clear for a corner.

Arsenal are moving the ball very well. They look a threat going forward.

Better signs these, from Arsene Wenger's side, after a bit of a booming start from Stoke.

Alexandre Lacazette floats in a delightful pass for Aaron Ramsey to run on to, Danny Welbeck peels off looking for the cut-back across goal, but Mame Biram Diouf performs his defensive duties superbly, muscling Ramsey to the ground, the ball dribbling through to Jack Butland's scooping gloves.

  8. CHANCE!published at 15 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Arsenal

Best move of the match so far. In true Arsenal fashion, it doesn't quite come off.

Aaron Ramsey chips wide to Mesut Ozil, who lithely knocks down for Hector Bellerin.

The Spaniard looks to work a one-two with Alexandre Lacazette, but the return pass can't quite find its target. Lacazette was in space with the goal to shoot at.

Free-kick Stoke, wide right. Nervous at the back? An Arsenal head booms clear at the first time of asking. Nothing to see here.

    Stoke 0-0 Arsenal

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain darts down the right wing, his pace leaves Erik Pieters smoking exit dust but Geoff Cameron comes across to block for a corner.

Bit of hesitation at the back as Stoke finally manage to clear, with Danny Welbeck lurking.

As Welbeck missed his kick, did the ball perhaps strike Pieters hand? Yes, but it certainly wasn't deliberate.

So far so good from Stoke. They have come out of the blocks very quick but I don't know how long they can keep this up.

Arsenal have players who can hurt you on the counter attack.

It is a good open game so far.

    Stoke 0-0 Arsenal

Poor from Alexandre Lacazette, his driven pass is cut out. Arsenal get another bite but Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey tie themselves in knots and Jack Butland can gather.

Not quite coming off yet for the Gunners.

    Stoke 0-0 Arsenal

Really bright start this from Stoke. They have come straight out the traps.

Darren Fletcher knocks a delicous-looking ball over the top looking for Eric Choupo-Moting, but it's just too long. Michael Carrick-esque, that pass.

  14. CHANCE!published at 4 mins

    Stoke 0-0 Arsenal

First touches for Jese - excellent ones.

He's played through on the far side by Darren Fletcher as the Gunners defence is breached, it's a lovely touch from the Spaniard to knock the ball past Shkodran Mustafi, but Petr Cech comes rushing out to block the shot.

    Stoke 0-0 Arsenal

Stoke's front is line like a wave of wasps round a jam sandwich, pressing Arsenal really high already.

The Gunners come up with some slinky passing to drive the ball through the red and white ranks though, and work it nicely into the far corner. Smooth.

We're expecting the biggest crowd in 29 years for Stoke, going back to their days at the Victoria Ground, because with the newly filled-in corner now complete about 30,000 will squeeze in.

Arsenal were emphatic winners here at the end of last season but that bucked the recent trend and this isn't Arsene Wenger's favourite destination. Jese makes his Stoke debut and much is expected of him. The stadium is rocking.

FOUR minutes to go until kick-off

Atmosphere is building nicely in the ground. In the tunnel, the players line up, tightly packed together, then make their way out to greet the fans.
