Continuing an emerging theme, Stoke tweeted a video announcing their latest signing - Spanish forward Jese, who has joined on loan from Paris St-Germain.

This clip had a twist though. It carried a subtly disguised message for Marko Arnautovic, who left to join West Ham for £20m in July.

Arnautovic - sent off today in the Hammers' 3-2 defeat by Southampton - said that he wanted to join West Ham because they are "a bigger, more ambitious club" than Stoke.

So his former club did this:

    Stoke City

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes: "We didn't cover ourselves in glory the last time we came out against them [Arsenal], so we need a marked improvement on that and I sense that from the group.

"We are hoping to involve all the signings we have brought in over the summer on Saturday. Some will start and others will be on the bench.

"We view the players we have brought in as regular starters. If we compare where we were at the end of last season I think we are stronger."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "I don't believe in bogey teams too much. We had a good performance here last season and we have to focus on that, just to deal with the same performance.

"Stoke have a good record at home against many teams and I'm convinced that if we play our game, we have a good chance of winning."

After the late drama of their opening weekend victory, Arsenal face a different challenge in their first game on the road - one, apart from last season, they've hardly relished in recent times.

Amongst the dramatic headlines of their four goals against Leicester, it took just 90 minutes for the familiar defensive questions to be posed.

Whether Stoke can probe them further remains to be seen. Twelve months ago they accumulated just three points from their first seven matches and are desperate to make a more positive start to this campaign.

They will hope this week's arrival of Jese Rodriguez will be the attacking boost they require and add to their memories of this particular fixture.

Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Arsenal only just got through their topsy-turvy game against Leicester and are not always great away from home.

They have also struggled at Stoke in the past - but they won 4-1 there in May and I think the Gunners will come out on top again this time too.

    Prediction: 0-2

Stoke hand a Premier League debut to new loan signing Jese as one of two changes from the team that lost 1-0 to Everton on Saturday. Saido Berahino is the man who makes way, while Bojan also drops out as Cameroon forward Eric Choupo-Moting makes his first start for the club.

Arsenal make two changes to the side that beat Leicester 4-3 at home last Friday.

Out goes Rob Holding, with Shkodran Mustafi taking his place in the back three, and Aaron Ramsey also comes in to replace Mohamed Elneny in central midfield.

And there is still no Alexis Sanchez, who is not fit enough to make the Gunners squad. Olivier Giroud, match-winner against the Foxes, is on the bench though.

Arsenal have added a bit of extra steel in the Bosnian shape of Sead Kolasinac (more on him later) but there was a familiar feel about last week's 4-3 see-saw victory over Leicester City.

Great for the neutral, but not so great for the old fingernails.

    Fancy another seven-goal thriller?

    Stoke v Arsenal (17:30 BST)

Last season Stoke went winless in their first seven league games. Back in 2015-16, they failed to win in their first six.

And this year's campaign began with defeat. They lost 1-0 at Goodison Park last weekend, going down to a Wayne Rooney goal on his Premier League return at Everton.

Mark Hughes' side will be hoping there's still life in the old Arsenal hoodoo yet...

They say every cloud has one.

Arsenal hadn't won in six visits to Stoke when they arrived at the end of a pretty torrid season in May.

Where they had so many times before been outmuscled and outplayed, Arsene Wenger's side walked off 4-1 winners.

We all start again in August though don't we?

And the idea is we all start stronger...
