Sam Pougher: Why is Pedro wearing a Batman mask?

He sustained multiple facial fractures, external in a pre-season fixture against Arsenal, Sam.

Anyway, it's more of a Zorro look isn't it?

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Gylfi Sigurdsson scored an absolute stunner in against Hajduk Split in midweek.

The Icelander is sensing another today, this time from closer range, but gets his strike wrong and off target.

Those 50 yarders only come once in a lifetime...unless you are Charlie Adam.

Another Spaniard in the action over at The Hawthorns.

Stoke's Jese hits the turf like has been caught by a Lennox Lewis left hook. Can he continue? Will he need an ambulance?

No, he does not. Allan Nyom simply brushes his face with his palm, while protecting the ball.

    Embarrassing from the visiting player.

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Ex-Everton winger Ronny Goodlass at Stamford Bridge

Everton simply switched off. It was a quick free-kick for Chelsea and they passed Sigurdsson, who was simply standing still.

Chelsea then found enough space for Fabregas and Morata to work together a one-two until Fabregas' wonderful finish.

But Everton have done very little, giving the hosts all the space and time in the world.

    Deserved lead.

Chelsea opening the scoring at Stamford Bridge. Willian plays the ball into the box for Alvaro Morata.

It seems the £60m man has mis-controlled it, but somehow manages to head it on into the path of his fellow Spaniard.

Midfielder Cesc Fabregas is running on to it and clips an outside-of-the-foot finish low into the corner past Jordan Pickford.

    A cute finish.

    West Brom 0-0 Stoke

Best chance of the match at The Hawthorns.

Centre-back Kurt Zouma trots forward unchallenged and thinks, why not.

He has a pop from 30 yards which takes a deflection off Gareth Barry and loops into the air, as Ben Foster has to run back to tip over the crossbar.

A very good stop, that was dipping in.

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

Almost midway through the first half and Everton's gameplan is pretty clear from the heat map below.

The Toffees, on the right, have yet to venture into the Chelsea penalty area as they try to soak up the home side's pressure and then hit them on the counter attack.

Chelsea's heat map on the left shows a lot more intent in the final third.

Talking of England, the country's leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney - who announced his retirement this week - is down after being caught in a sandwich between N'Golo Kante and Marcos Alonso.

Jon Moss does not feel there was an infringement, so Rooney, eyes popping out of his face, climbs up off the canvass and gives the referee a piece of his mind.

    Not a pretty sight.

I was not sure about Jordan Pickford early in his Sunderland career, but he has really grown into being a fine goalkeeper.

Surely he has to start for England against Malta in their World Cup qualifier next Friday?

The early sparkle at The Hawthorns has fizzled out a little.

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

    BBC Merseyside Sport

Chelsea are slowly acquiring their attacking rhythm. There's some great interplay between Willian - who's a player I really admire - and Morata up front.

It's the hosts with the momentum and Chelsea are simply dominating midfield, especially with Fabregas and Kante's work. It means Everton haven't held onto the ball for any length of time.

Willian shuffling to his right on the edge of the Everton box to try and open up some space for a shot, but it goes wide of the post.

Could not get enough bend on it.

Then, David Luiz - up from centre-back - drills a low shot which is comfortable for Jordan Pickford.

The Everton goalkeeper is having work to do early on and is called into action again, but shows assured handling by collecting Pedro's zipping drive.

Idrissa Gueye picks up a yellow cardImage source, Rex Features

An early booking for Idrissa Gueye for a late challenge on Cesc Fabregas. Not too dissimilar to the one that saw Blues defender Gary Cahill see red for in the opening game.

Meanwhile, the masked Pedro goes leaping through the London air in an attempted overhead kick, but his special powers let him down as the strike goes over Jordan Pickford's crossbar.

Correct decision, there was no contact, but no yellow card so simulation either.

Everton are failing to string passes together, and the visitors really need to be sharp in these early stages.

I suspect that the Toffees have been told to try and exploit the space behind Chelsea's wing-backs - we all know those players like to push high up the flanks.

Ross B: I'd love to see Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, the mountain from Game of Thrones, at centre back. Strong on the ball and in the air.

Kev: Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, would be a decent signing for any team. He would be solid at the back!

    Antonio ConteImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea were fabulous a week ago against Tottenham. Antonio Conte is supreme tactician and he is the gaffer at that football club, doing things his way.

The Blues were unbelievable last weekend, only just better than Spurs. It's that extra that wins you the title.

At Everton, Wayne Rooney has been taking his goals really well, and of course there's no question about his ability. Fitness levels are the issue with him, and hopefully he can retain that throughout the season.

Of course, the important thing is that the other players chip in across the piece.

West Brom, looking to go joint top of the table with Manchester United, have started on the front foot and forced a couple of early corners.

James Morrison is looking to give his side the lead, but heads wide from Chris Brunt's cross at the back post.

Judging by this reaction, the midfielder feels he should be doing better.
