Great free-kick. The wall is big, though. What is the goalie thinking? He has hit it well and with pace. It is just what Liverpool need - that away goal.

    Trent Alexander-Arnold

    What a free-kick! And what a moment for the 18-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The right-back, on his European debut, curls the ball superbly over the wall and into the far corner, well out of reach of the goalkeeper.

Fine strike and a crucial away goal for Jurgen Klopp's men.

Some of the movement has been good, but when they get into the final third there is little quality from either side.

We are waiting for that little bit of quality. There are enough players out there to show it.

    Hoffenheim 0-0 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp does a bit of repair work as he tucks in a bit of upturned turf on the edge of the pitch close to his technical area.

The Liverpool boss will be reasonably happy with what he has seen so far. The hosts have had more of the ball, but how long can they keep up their intensity?

  6. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Hoffenheim 0-0 Liverpool

The hosts have had 60% of the possession but just one shot on target so far.

The home crowd, vociferous at the start, have quietened down a bit. Ermin Bicakcic recognises this and waves his arms up and down to encourage them to keep up their support.

    Juliette Ferrington
BBC Radio 5 live in Hoffenheim

You know it's a hot night when bare chested men populate the home terraces with their banners and flags bouncing up and down non-stop. They're having the night of their lives compared to the Liverpool fans who are rather subdued camped in the corner of the stadium.

It is a good ball in but where is Alberto Moreno? He is in no man's land. He has to get back in and support Lovren.

    Hoffenheim 0-0 Liverpool

Half a chance for the hosts as a cross is sent to the far post where Pavel Kaderabek hasn't been picked up but he lashes well over.

That was Alberto Moreno's man. The Liverpool full-back is not doing a great deal to change Mark Lawrenson's mind about him so far...

    Hoffenheim 0-0 Liverpool

Hoffenheim's baby-faced manager Julian Nagelsmann strides to the edge of his technical area to shout some instructions at his players. He appears to be urging them to calm down a bit. The hosts have been lively, but their eagerness to get forward quickly has left them exposed to the counter a couple of times.

Defending for both sides has been questionable so far. The way things are looking we could easily have another 3-3 on our hands.

Liverpool win a corner but Trent Alexander-Arnold's delivery fails to beat the first man.

  16. CLOSE!published at 14 mins

    Hoffenheim 0-0 Liverpool

    Now Liverpool should be ahead!

A terrible mistake by Hoffenheim skipper Kevin Vogt allows the Reds to break on the counter through Mohamed Salah. He's one-on-one but has got almost half the pitch to travel and by the time he gets to the box he has Vogt on him again and ends up stabbing his shot wide.

Normally Mignolet is a bit of villain. But he guessed right and it was a comfortable save. Some people would say it is not a penalty so that is justice for them.

  19. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 11 mins

    Hoffenheim 0-0 Liverpool

    Poor penalty!

Andrej Kramaric steps up to take the spot kick but his it straight down the middle and it's an easy bat away for Simon Mignolet.

Jurgen Klopp flashes a relieved smile at his bench as he applauds Mignolet's save. That was a big chance for the hosts to take the lead.
