    Chelsea v Qarabag (19:45 BST)

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte makes five changes from the side who beat Leicester City 2-1.

Right-back Davide Zappacosta makes his first start, with Michy Batshuayi up front. Gary Cahill is back after his domestic ban, while Andreas Christensen and Willian also enter the mix.

The rested quintet David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger, Victor Moses, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata all drop to the bench, where they join Eden Hazard.

Dino Ndlovu is likely to be Qarabag's danger man. The South Africa international scored four goals in Champions League qualifying.

Real Madrid are chasing an unprecedented third consecutive Champions League title, Paris St-Germain are breaking spending records and Barcelona appear fallible.

Could this be the most intriguing Champions League yet?

  3. Team newspublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 12 September 2017

Man Utd v Basel (19:45 BST)

Manchester United are without suspended first-choice centre-back pairing Eric Bailly and Phil Jones so Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof, the latter for his first appearance since the European Super Cup on 8 August.

In fact, the whole defence is different to that which started Saturday's game at Stoke. Ashley Young and Daley Blind replace Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian.

Other changes see Juan Mata and Anthony Martial come in for Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford. Marouane Fellaini is fit again and on the bench.

Basel make two changes from their last game - a 2-1 loss at Lausanne on Saturday. They have switched from 4-2-3-1 to 3-4-3. Eder Balanta comes in to defence and Mohamed Elyounoussi is one of the three forwards. Midfielders Sereso Die and Kevin Bua are the ones replaced.

You may remember Ricky van Wolfswinkel from his disappointing spell at Norwich. He is leading the line for the Swiss side.

  4. Can PSG win the Champions League?published at 18:54 British Summer Time 12 September 2017

    Celtic v PSG (19:45 BST)

    Andy Brassell
    European Football Expert

If Real Madrid have stepped back from taking the transfer market by the scruff of the neck, then PSG have taken their place in some style.

The signing of Neymar shook the football world, and it felt like a turning point for the French giants. For all their achievements since Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) took over the club in 2011, they had never been able to recruit an elite-level star in his prime - until now.

With France's brightest talent Kylian Mbappe leaving Monaco for the Parc des Princes, Neymar will continue to be a part of Europe's most vaunted front three. It's just that this time it will be a completely new one, made up of the Brazilian, the teenage Mbappe and the profilic Edinson Cavani.

With last season's capitulation to Barcelona in the last 16 still fresh in the mind, it's PSG's mettle - rather than their flair - that will come under the microscope.

The first club from Azerbaijan to play in the Champions League have already beaten the Georgian champions, the Moldovan champions and the Danish champions and now they take on the English champions in a daunting debut.

They were in London two years ago when they lost to Tottenham at White Hart Lane in the Europa League group stages but this is a step up and a momentous night for the club and the country they represent.

Manchester United v Basel (19:45 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 live

John Murray: "Manchester United had to fight hard to get into the Champions League because they had to win the Europa League. Now they are back here with the start they have made and the group they are in I would expect absolute minimum of last 16 for them. Once you get to that stage who knows what is possible."

Chris Waddle: "I think Manchester United will win the group. They have had a great year to get into the Champions League but I they will be playing a side who will be in awe of them. Basel will have to defend unbelievably well and catch Manchester United in the counter attack and I just can't see that happening."

As Champions League openers go, can you get any juicer than this?

Last year's runners up Juventus travel to an in-form Barcelona, who have won their opening three La Liga games under new boss Ernesto Valverde.

It is Juve's 18th appearance in the Champions League, a new record for an Italian side (ahead of AC Milan on 17).

Coach Massimiliano Allegri says Barca are still "one of the two strongest teams in the world" despite losing Neymar this summer.

That praise is reciprocated by Valverde, who says Juve are a "powerful team" with a "great coach and great players."

This will be the fifth game between Manchester Utd and Basel, all in the Champions League. For now, the record is perfectly balanced with one win each and two draws.

However, Basel are unbeaten against Manchester Utd at Old Trafford, having drawn in their two previous trips (1-1 in March 2003, 3-3 in September 2011).

Old Trafford plays host to its first Champions League game since 2015 tonight and no-one could accuse Jose Mourinho of going overboard in his expectations for Manchester United in his programme notes.

He said: "The first step is to try and finish in the top three of the group. If we manage that, we will try to finish in the top two."

  15. 'Hopefully their strike force will have an off day'published at 18:40 British Summer Time 12 September 2017

    Celtic v PSG (19:45 BST)

Former Celtic defender Tom Boyd speaking on BBC Radio 5 live earlier today: "Neymar has been here before and went away with nothing. All the best players have been here before and went away with nothing.

"We have punched above our weight down the years and in tonight’s game the bookies have given us the furthest away odds ever for a home team, but we have stepped up in the past.

"It’s a massive step up, you just have to look at the cost of PSG's strike force. Celtic can only dream about that kind of money. But we will go on with what we have. Brendan has the players playing to a whole different level and that’s what gives us a bit of confidence and the ability to take them on. Hopefully their strike force will have an off day.

"I predict it will be 2-1 to the Hoops."

Qarabag - along with RB Leipzig - are making their Champions League debut this season. They are the first team from Azerbaijan to reach the group stages of the competition.

As you might expect, it is the first competitive encounter between them and Chelsea. In fact, the only previous meeting between English and Azerbaijani sides saw Tottenham face Qarabag in the 2015-16 Europa League group stages, the north London team winning both games (3-1 at home, 1-0 in Baku).

    Guess who's back, back again...?

Yes, Eden Hazard will be on Chelsea's bench for their Champions League return against Azerbaijani side Qarabag, as boss Antonio Conte considers changes.

The Premier League champions did not compete in any European competition last season.

Hazard has not started for the Blues this season because of an ankle injury.

Chelsea play seven games in 21 days this month, and Conte said: "You have to do some rotation otherwise the last two games you have no energy."

Every top dog needs a good sidekick. Batman has Robin, Lion-O has Snarf, Charlie Brown has Snoopy. It would appear that the Spotty to Jose Mourinho's Superted is none other than Marouane Fellaini.

The Manchester United boss admitted this week that he "feels weaker" without Fellaini in his squad after confirming the midfielder is a doubt tonight.

Fellaini missed Saturday's 2-2 draw with Stoke because of a calf injury.

The Belgium international has divided opinion among fans since joining from Everton in 2013, but Mourinho was keen to emphasise his value.

    "I need him," he said.

"He's a very important player for me, much more important than you can imagine. I feel weaker without him."
