Manchester City need to finish better than they did in the first half. They had a few opportunities to score.

They need to tighten up at the back as well. A bit of both will be nice!

    Spartak Moscow 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool send Dejan Lovren up for a free-kick, he meets it with a powerful header which again is straight at Artem Rebrov, who pushes it over! Again, he should score that.

The offside flag was raised, but he was on.

    Apoel 0-1 Tottenham

Harry Kane may not be able to score in August but he's more than made up for it with nine goals in six games during September for club and country.

  4. 'Far from over'published at 20:48 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Apoel Nicosia 0-1 Tottenham

    John Southall

It had to be Harry Kane what a rich vein of form he's in, that's his seventh goal of the season for Tottenham and it's seven in his last five games, it's also his third Champions League goal after the two against Dortmund.

He finished it as coolly as we've now come to expect and a nod to Toby Alderweireld who supplied a wonderful through ball.

Having said all of that this game is far from over, Apoel have squandered three good chances and they're attacking their orange hordes in the second half. Bring it on.

A very early chance for Spurs as Harry Kane finds Son overlapping on his left, he side-foots it across goal - just wide!

  8. No joy yet for Aubapublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Real Madrid

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not had a particularly great game for Dortmund. He will be keen to impress after making it well-known he wanted a move to Madrid in the summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to find the back of the net on his 400th appearance for Real Madrid but he has still been a threat.

Can Dortmund find a way back into this game?

  9. Pass of the nightpublished at 20:42 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Apoel Nicosia 0-1 Tottenham

Harry Kane was clinical for Spurs' goal but plenty of credit should go the way of Toby Alderweirdeld.

The centre-back (4) played a great through ball to Kane, allowing the England striker in behind the Apoel defence.

Spartak Moscow (on the left) have touched the ball just once inside the Liverpool penalty area in the first half, while the Reds have been pretty much camped inside the Russian half.

Will Manchester City regret those missed chances in the first half?

Liz: Very last season, those sitters (for players of their quality) missed by KDB/Sane.

Cube: this missing of clear chances will be the undoing of MCFC this season! Not all opposition will be this complacent.

  12. As it standspublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Spartak Moscow 1-1 Liverpool

If it ended like this, Liverpool would be second in Group E on two points, with Sevilla top on four.

Manchester City and Shakhtar will both have four points at the top of their group, with Spurs and Real Madrid on six points and looking pretty already in Group H.

  13. 'Both managers will be happy'published at 20:35 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Manchester City 0-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

    Ally McCoist
Former Scotland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

One thing that has been evident in the first 45 minutes is the pace from both sides. It has been very exciting.

Both managers will be reasonably happy but equally they will be happy not to have conceded any goals.

  14. Half-time across Europepublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

There has been plenty of goals elsewhere but just the one between Dortmund and Real Madrid as Gareth Bale's 18th minute volley is the only thing separating the two sides so far.

Besiktas and Sevilla both hold a comfortable 2-0 lead, while Porto and Napoli lead by just the one goal.

  17. City's strugglespublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Man City 0-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

    Just a reminder.

Following their victory in Rotterdam against Feyernoord a fortnight ago, City are tonight attempting to start a Champions League group campaign with back-to-back victories for the first time.

I am not sure the nerves are getting to them, but getting this win is not proving easy.

Seems as if Liverpool fans aren't the only ones witnessing some questioning keeping tonight.

Daniel: That was some APOEL-ling goalkeeping.

Dave: Shocking clearance by Ederson, that could easily have fallen to Shakhtar player.

  19. CLOSE!published at 20:32 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Spartak Moscow 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool should score! Spartak have presumably never scouted Liverpool once as they send EVERYONE up for a corner, it's cleared and the Reds are five-on-two!

They should score from there, but the ball to Jordan Henderson is a bit strong, his cross is then too hard for Sadio Mane - who is offside - and Mohamed Salah ends up shooting wide anyway!
