If there ever is a good time to play Real Madrid is this it?

    Reasons to be hopeful:

    - Real’s defeat at lowly Girona on Sunday.

    - Real are third in La Liga, eight points behind Barcelona.

    - No Gareth Bale to come back and haunt them.

    - Harry Kane is fit.

    Reasons to be fearful:

    -Real haven’t lost a group game since October 2012, that’s 30 games.

    - They’ve failed to score only once in the last 53 group games.

    - They’re unbeaten against Tottenham in European competition.

    - They’re Real Madrid.

Will it be a famous night at Wembley? Commentary on BBC Radio Five Live from 19:45 GMT

When Tottenham Hotspur made their first trip to Real Madrid in the Champions League, a teenage Harry Kane was offering few signs of his future potential.

On 5 April 2011, while Spurs were being torn apart at the Bernabeu, the 18-year-old was sat on the Leyton Orient bench, patiently waiting for his chance to come on in a League One game against Plymouth.

When Tottenham made their next trip in the same competition, the maturing Kane was being linked with a £200m-plus move, external to the 12-time European champions.

Last month the 24-year-old arrived in the Spanish capital as Tottenham and England's talisman - splashed across the front of Madrid's sports papers, the opponent to fear.

"His rise has been one of the biggest shocks of my footballing career," Jermaine Jenas, his former Spurs team-mate, said.

As Real Madrid prepare to face Spurs at Wembley on Wednesday, BBC Sport analyses whether Kane has the talent, mental strength and marketability to become a Galactico.

The pizza in this place must be very good although I didn't join the queue to find out. Naples is a colourful, chaotic city and the streets were jam-packed today as it's a public holiday. Add to that the fact that their beloved football team is playing in a crucial Champions League game this evening and I think it's fair to say the place is buzzing.

My taxi driver was almost in tears - no exaggeration - as he explained his passion for Napoli to me and what it would mean to the city if the club could win the Serie A title this season for only the third time in its history. Our journey from the airport to the hotel also reminded me that Naples is probably the easiest city in Europe to lose your deposit on a hire car as the driving is pretty hair-raising to say the least.

La Gazzetta dello Sport sets tonight's game up as Lorenzo Insigne versus Sergio Aguero, Napoli's current darling against the former son-in-law of their forever hero Diego Maradona. Aguero goes in search of that 178th goal for Manchester City tonight to break the club record held by Eric Brook which has stood for almost 80 years although Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has picked out City goalkeeper Ederson as their most dangerous player because of his incredible distribution of the ball in the first encounter to beat Napoli's pressing game. I think he might be a busy boy with his hands tonight as well though as this is a game Napoli really have to win - particularly if Shakhtar Donetsk beat Feyenoord in Ukraine.

Tottenham v Real Madrid (19:45 GMT)

When Francesco Totti picked Spurs out of the hat back in August and gave them a group containing Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, even the most optimistic Tottenham fan must have feared the worst.

But, a few months on Spurs are 90 minutes away from securing a place in the last 16 of the European Cup for the first time since 2011, and only the third time ever.

Granted, they do need to beat the holders to go through tonight.

But Real are not in great shape. And Harry Kane should be back...
