Carl, he's got longer than that...

As an Everton fan it is painful to watch us play. Can’t work out if players don’t want to play for Koeman or are they really just awful? Can’t play a simple pass, can’t move after a pass. It’s woeful. If we lose tonight and get embarrassed on Sunday I feel it will be see you later Mr Koeman. Also Davy Klaassen needs renaming. There is no class whatsoever. At least give Lookman 30 mins tonight to make an impact.

    Carl in Rugby.

Everton are the press punchbag at the moment. Not playing well but have good players with low confidence. Need a break but constant criticism not helping. Give the boys a break!!

That chance has lifted the home crowd. A good start to the second half but they need to keep this pressure up on Lyon.

  3. CLOSE!published at 48 mins

    Everton 0-1 Lyon

Almost an immediate impact for Ademola Lookman! Dominic Calvert-Lewin flicks on a cross and Lookman sticks out a foot at the far post but it is straight at the keeper.

    What a chance.

  5. 'A great goal'published at 21:07 British Summer Time 19 October 2017

    Crvena Zvezda 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: "Olivier Giroud scored a great goal. Overall I think it was a good team performance. We played against a good side in a fantastic atmosphere. We are focused and motivated.

"Everyone deserves credit tonight. We always expect to win the games but tonight a point would not have been a bad result because we had six points but we continued to attack and our offensive three made the difference."

On Giroud's goal: "I had a good angle on the goal. It was a great combination and he finished it well. Petr Cech kept us in the game."

Almost time for the second half to get under way at Everton. First, let's hear what Arsene Wenger had to say after Arsenal's narrow win...

    Everton 0-1 Lyon

It was as bad a start as you can have to a game for Everton as they conceded a penalty early on but with just one goal in it there's plenty of time for the Toffees to turn things around. Need to be a bit more effective with their chances, though. They have had eight attempts on goal but just two of those were on target.

Andy White: Koeman's managerial career is very much hit and miss. Maybe a miss at Everton but I'm sure he will do well elsewhere.

This is a fine team to watch. Lyon - not Everton. Betrand Traore is the latest to threaten with a left-footed curler from the corner of the area but it's always heading wide.

  11. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    Everton 0-1 Lyon

And now Lyon should score! Memphis Depay plays a give-and-go which toasts the Everton defence, Depay is far too quick for the lagging Morgan Schneiderlin and he's clean through on goal. Can he beat Jordan Pickford?

No. And his shot was really poor. A side-footer. Barely a backpass. The pass through though was sensational. Nabil Fekir is some talent.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 41 mins

    Everton 0-1 Lyon

It all opens up - what a chance for Everton as they are gifted a two-on-one attack! Davy Klaassen is the man with the ball at his feet, he has Dominic Calvert-Lewin for company but elects to shoot from the edge of the area. Hits it hard and low but Anthony Lopes is able to make a save. Should he have passed?

By the way I should report that it is absolutely throwing it down now. Torrential.

Nikola Vlasic remains an outlet but he can only scuff a shot wide from 20 yards.

    Everton 0-1 Lyon

    Great strike!

Memphis Depay lines up a free-kick from 35 yards out, super ambitious but he cracks one. Tom Davies does well to throw his head on it but can only flick a header against the corner of post and bar!

That was shifting at express pace.

Are Ronald Koeman's days numbered at Everton? It is a results business etc.

That ball from Tom Davies was a green shoot of recovery but generally the Toffees have looked woefully short of ideas in the final third.

Same old same old. Koeman needs to go ASAP and bring a new man in who can defend and attack. Come back Moyesie all is forgiven.

Is Koeman going to lose his job after a loss against Lyon or Arsenal? Sad to see the decline of competence in a once promising manager.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 32 mins

    Everton 0-1 Lyon

Good ball! The first bit of really bright play from Everton and the crowd respond. Lovely pass from Tom Davies, not taking the obvious option for once and instead playing forwards, through the lines and into the run of Kevin Mirallas. It's on his left foot, he's close to goal and his shot is well smothered by Anthony Lopes.

    Everton 0-1 Lyon

This is easy for Lyon, so, so easy. No pressure on the ball, time and space, nobody tracking runs. Tom Davies gets frustrated and barges Bertrand Traore over with a bodycheck.

Everton have got to change something.

A few early goals to report away from Goodison Park.

In Everton's group, Atalanta are 1-0 up against Apollon Limassol. Josip Ilicic scored the goal for the group leaders.

Roger Assale has given Young Boys the lead at Dynamo Kiev, who have two wins out of two so far in the competition.

Three goals already in Group F, with Anton Miranchuk making it Sheriff 0-1 Lokomotiv Moscow and Zlin and FC Copenhagen drawing 1-1. Dame Diop scoring the home side before Peter Ankersen levelled for the Danes.

    Everton 0-1 Lyon

Everton had a few minutes of control but Lyon can turn it on whenever they want it seems. Goalscorer Nabil Fekir and Myziane Maolida link up and drive right through Everton, Kenny Tete then floats in an inviting cross and Jordan Pickford does well to come and claim it.

At the other end Morgan Schneiderlin shoots wide.
