    Liverpool 1-1 Burnley

That is Mohamed Salah's fifth goal in eight appearances since signing from Roma in the summer.

And he could easily have more with some sharper finishing.

Mind you, you could stick a bollard at the top of this Liverpool attack and it might reach double figures for the season.

What a finish on the half-volley from Scott Arfield. He gets his chest over the ball and it's perfect. The goalkeeper had no chance.

    What a brilliant finish!

Mo Salah does it all himself. He brings the ball down well.

    Mohamed Salah

Liverpool back level and Mohamed Salah's summer transfer fee is looking better business by the match.

The £36m winger kills Emre Can's ball forward with his first touch, nudges the ball away from Matthew Lowton with his second and drills a low finish past Nick Pope with his third.

    Scott Arfield

Liverpool sucker-punched, Burnley continue their clinical away finishing.

    Nothing close to rocket science.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is outjumped by Stephen Ward, Chris Wood makes a nuisance of himself and the ball breaks loose for Scott Arfield to hit a crisp finish into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Liverpool's best chance of the match so far.

Daniel Sturridge turns provider as he drops a little deeper, gets his head up and clips a searching cross towards the far post.

Just a little bit too much heat on it. Mohammed Salah stretches every sinew but the ball smears off his head, up and over after he loses the attention of Stephen Ward.

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Philippe Coutinho drops a shoulder and lets fly off his right foot from 20 yards.

It is a welcome sight that Anfield has not seen in a while. But the shot is deflected off Ben Mee and over top.

  7. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 16 September 2017

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

That is a very optimistic penalty shout.

Mohamed Salah twists in the box and flops over the leg of James Tarkowski.

Nothing doing from referee Roger East despite the Egyptian's pleas.

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Sean Dyche is growling like a pitbull on the sidelines.

He feels that Emre Can bundled Scott Arfield to the ground in a good free-kick spot, 40 yards from goal.

That would have been a prime position to test Liverpool's creaky back door.

But referee Roger East keeps his arms by his sides and his whistle silent.

James Ballantyne: When you're the ox and miner starts ahead of you...

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Better delivery this time from Trent Alexander-Arnold as he threads a cross down the corridor of uncertainty from out on the Liverpool right.

Daniel Sturridge is operating within the width of the penalty box, but is not quite quick enough to get to that before Nick Pope.

All Liverpool, like an attack v defence trainng exercise, at the moment.

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Joel Matip pings a ball from back to front and to the feet of Daniel Sturridge.

The Liverpool striker tries to turn but has his legs swept from under him.

Free-kick, 35 yards out. Coutinho country? Nope, Liverpool have played it wide.

And Trent Alexander-Arnold sees his cross blocked.

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

The Kop are already vigilant against any time-wasting.

Nick Pope is given the hurry-up as he dawdles over a goal-kick.

  13. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Joel Matip is a little too casual at the back, giving the ball away with his lacklustre control.

Chris Wood nips in and steals the ball away, but Matip's colleagues are back in enough numbers to snuff out any danger.

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Liverpool dink the ball around deftly on the fringe of the box with Philippe Coutinho combining neatly with compatriot Roberto Firmino.

Burnley stay strong though to usher him away from goal.

Liverpool try another route as Andrew Robertson bombs on down the left and slings in a low cross.

    That is cleared as well.

Plenty of pressure though from the Reds.

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

    Ouch.

Burnley with an early chance to pump a set-piece into the box and Ragnar Klaven and Chris Wood bash heads as they compete for the ball.

Both up and walking. But Liverpool did not look totally comfortable under the early aerial volley.

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Liverpool set up with Philippe Coutinho deeper behind a front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and, through the middle Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge swipes a foot at the ball as it breaks to him, 15 yards out, but it is only a scuffed half-chance and is meat and drink for Nick Pope in the Burnley goal.

Philippe Coutinho's name was read out over the public address system to cheers from the home fans.

The Brazilian is exchanging chest bumps and back slaps with his team-mates as You'll Never Walk Alone rings around Anfield.

Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, making his first Premier League start, is getting similar treatment from his Clarets' colleagues.

Where Philippe Coutinho plays today will be very interesting. He might play behind the front three and it's a big afternoon for him.

He needs to show fans, players and the whole club that he is serious. If he shows some rustiness then the fans might give him a hard time.

Liverpool won 2-1 against the Clarets last season at Anfield, but Sean Dyche's template will surely be his side's 2-0 win at Turf Moor back in August 2016.

That day Liverpool had 80% of possession and 26 shots to the hosts three. And lost 2-0.

Burnley kept Liverpool at arm's length that day, restricting the Reds to shots from distance.

With Scott Arfield preferred to Sam Vokes, expect a bank of five in front of a bank of four, ramrod discipline and the concentration of a yoga black belt.
