Liverpool have won all three previous home games against Burnley

After a frustrating week domestically and in Europe, Liverpool will hope for a more sedate, recognisable day at the office, without defensive headlines.

Before blowing Arsenal away they had to be patient to beat Crystal Palace in their other home league game so far, and those qualities could well be required again.

They will certainly be wary of Burnley's away results against Chelsea and Spurs already this season though, and the steady start the Clarets have made to their campaign, as they dream of a first Anfield win for 43 years.

    Fortress Turf Moor.

That was what Burnley's first season back in the Premier League was based on.

They won 33 of their 40 points on home turf last season.

But this season, their first two trips have taken them to last season's top two - Chelsea and Tottenham - and delivered four points.

Can they frustrate another of the big boys today?

The philosophy at Liverpool is the issue. If Franco Baresi or Paolo Maldini was there, they would want the central midfielders or full-backs closer to them. Virgil van Dijk is not going to fix Liverpool. I don’t care what team you are, your defence needs protection.

If you are a fan of football, you love how Jurgen Klopp plays, they love the press and possession. You can counter that by playing the ball over the top. Modify the tactics, play with a sweeper. When you play against Liverpool, put the ball over the top and you negate the press.

Naby Keita is a very special player, he has been terrific in the Bundesliga with Leipzig and will be a wonderful signing. He is a massive upgrade for them. Liverpool’s central midfielders are too attacking. They need two sitting in front of the back four and let the other four attack.

    Sturridge? Check.

    Salah? Check.

    Firmino? Check.

No Sadio Mane (suspension) or Steven Gerrard (retirement) but Jurgen Klopp has gone full bore with his attacking line-up.

Of course it is not at that end that most Liverpool are particularly concerned about.

Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip will be trying to dispel Liverpool's reptutation for having a softer underbelly than a cashmere goat.

  6. Seven changes for Liverpoolpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 16 September 2017
