It was almost a tale of two Everton strikers at Goodison today. Oumar Niasse bagged two to get Koeman away from the fire, while Wayne Rooney took an elbow to the cheek from Simon Francis. There was no card for the Bournemouth defender, with the clash deemed to be accidental.

It was exactly what they needed - a change of dynamic from Oumar Niasse and it was his goals which gave Everton the win.

Everton

Everton boss Ronald Koeman, speaking to MOTD: "Calm after the game, yes. There were a lot of emotions. It was a difficult game, we did not create many chances and we took the right decision after 1-0 down to try something different - play two strikers and go more direct.

"More credit to the players - Niasse and Davies. They did a good job after a difficult time. The boys showed great character.

"He [Oumar Niasse] is bringing more aggression. We needed in the second half to have another striker close to Dominic to press a bit better than we did before. All the credit to Oumar Niasse, that is all about life. If you get your chance you need to take it. He took it on Wednesday and again today.

"It is a totally different world after winning. You have key moments during the season and this was a big win that will give everyone a boost."

By coming from behind to beat Bournemouth, Everton have dragged themselves out of the bottom three. Two goals from Oumar Niasse has the Blues up to 15th, a point ahead of the drop zone. Some relief for Ronald Koeman?

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield manager David Wagner: "It was a tight game, very even. Maybe they were the better side in the first half and we were better in the second half.

"I'm very pleased with our defensive work. Maybe we made too many mistakes in the first half. We spoke about it, then we had out moments.

"Everyone knows this is a difficult place to play. I'm OK with the result.

On the Van la Parra dive: "I was too far away, not able to see it. It was very quick. If it was a dive, it's not what we want to see."

Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "We were searching for that cutting edge. Chris Wood had a great chance and there were some other close moments but, overall, I'm pleased with the result.

"My only gripe is that they have to change rules about retrospective diving. I'm talking about Rajiv van La Parra. If they got a penalty from that and he scores, he gets banned. Because they didn't get a penalty, nothing happens.

"It should be talked about. It has to go out of the game. The ban should be effective from now. It's not about the player, because I don't know him. It was a good decision to book him, but they should have more powers after the match has finished. We have to get that out of the game."

Stand by for a debate on diving...

Southampton

Southampton striker Shane Long speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought we deserved more from the game. Manchester United are dangerous all over the pitch.

"They have physical players on set-pieces. To limit them to one goal was a credit to our team but it was just a shame we couldn't get that equaliser at the other end.

"There were a lot of chances but things didn't seem to fall for us. It wasn't through a lack of trying though. It just didn't happen today."

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho speaking to Sky Sports: "It is not always possible to operate at high quality but fought hard.

"We did what many teams in the Premier League do for 90 minutes, which was play with five defenders at the back.

"Credit to Southampton, they tried to play. Pellegrino changed the team and sent on another striker to play more direct.

"It was a hard game but I am really happy.

"Romelu Lukaku's work is so important for us. He scored his goal and worked hard like everybody else.

"Nobody feels the pressure to play always attacking football because so many teams play always defensively.

"I felt some of the boys were not sharp. I didn't feel like we could score three or four goals like we sometimes do so the option was to make sure we got the points."

Watford

Watford goalscorer Andre Gray: "We started well and that's some of the best football we've played. We seemed to lose our way a bit but managed to get back in it.

We dug in there. We know we've got the quality going forward.

Striker Troy Deeney: "Fair play to the manager. He got it right. The boys out there starting are making it tough for people like myself. The big man (Gray) ran himself into the ground and I've got to try and match him when I come on.

"We've got to keep going with our great start to the season."

That shellacking by Manchester City aside, Marco Silva is quietly doing a very good job at Watford. They are up to fifth now, level on points with fourth-placed Spurs.

Manchester United

Manchester United defender Phil Jones: "We are happy with the three points, but not too happy with the performance, maybe last season we would have come here and drew or lost it, but we need to do better than that.

"Romelu Lukaku needs one chance and sticks it in the net and we are thankful to have him."

That is the absolute definitinon of digging out three ppints. Every single Manchester United player was a defender in that second-half.

It doesn't matter. As long as it works and it did work. You will never get closer to losing two points than Manchester United did today.

Manchester United keep pace with City, on points at least. City will lead the Premier League on goal difference tonight. United really had to work hard to scrape three points on the south coast.

Manchester United hang on. Right at the end, Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands, but it's hard to work out why. He did his shakey-hand thing with the Sainst bench as he departed.

Who's needs defending anyway? Watford bounce back from the mauling by Man City.
