Tony Greaves: Chelsea looked like they were playing with 10 men for most of the game.

Mahbub Anam: City outclass Chelsea in every single department. How Chelsea must rue selling De Bruyne for peanuts.

Fish Hailu: Manchester City are the team to beat. Chelsea very poor tonight. Manchester United must overcome City if they want to win the league.

  3. 'A disappointment'published at 20:12 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Man City

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, speaking to BBC Sport:

"For sure there is a disappointment for the result but I think when two great teams play these games anything can happen. I must be pleased with the commitment of my players, because we gave everything."

On Alvaro Morata's apparent hamstring injury:

"When you lose this type of player it is not simple. When you play three massive games in only seven games you must consider this, it can happen a muscular problem, but I do not think it is serious. Alvaro stopped before it became a serious injury."

On the decision to replace Morata with Willian:

"It was a technical decision, also to try and exploit the space. It was a simple tactical decision. Manchester City, we know very well they are a good team. They were a good team last season."

John: Well done Man City to overcome the 8-2-0 formation of Chelsea today!

John Southworth: Chelsea seemed to play with so much fear against Arsenal and City. The performance against Atletico was a million miles away.

The Governor: Naysayers said Pep can't maintain his style and win games in the EPL, now we know better. City a delight to watch.

  6. What's next?published at 20:00 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

  7. 'We were very positive'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Man City

    Manchester City

More from Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I feel very happy. We produced a good performance. We knew it would be tactical very difficult. They are one of the best teams on the counter attack. The way we played was very positive.

"We had a little bit of a plan not to get caught by Eden and Willian because they are dangerous, that's why we played like a 3-4-3 and we managed to do it very well.

"The spirit is very good. I think it was after a game in pre-season that Pep said we need to get the mentality to hate to lose. This year we try to do that and win the points in the big games. It can change very quickly but we ha a good spell in September and try to do the same when we come back after the international break."

Sean McGreal: Total performance by Manchester City. The type that wins you league championships.

Luke: That's City and even Arsenal that have shown Chelsea to be pretty average. Another humiliating title defence coming up?

Paul Gourley: Alienating your best striker in Costa is going to cost Chelsea - and not replacing him with a world class striker.

  9. 'You need time to recover to play Man City'published at 19:50 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Man City

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte speaking to BT Sport:

"It was a tough game but we know very well that Manchester City are a big team and it's very difficult to play this type of game.

"I think that we gave everything today and I am happy with the commitment and desire from all my players. They had the will to fight against a very strong team.

"In this type of game you need time to recover, if you are tired it is not simple to go box to box. Today we created chances but we didn't take them. Manchester City had chances and they took them.

"It is logical when you play three games in seven days you risk something. I hope it is not a serious injury for Morata. It is his hamstring but we don't know if it is a serious problem.

"We move on, we rest and I am very proud to be the coach of these players."

  11. 'They could not play'published at 19:46 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Man City

    Manchester City

More from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's BBC interview first:

"We are so happy. The most important thing is to win the game but the way we played especially in the second half was pleasing.

"We had control and the second half we adjusted our possession and the way we attacked. They could not play and had to do long balls.

"Kevin de Bruyne was outstanding, he makes absolutely everything. He is good in small spaces, he is humble and clever. He has speed and fight and can attack through the channel. He can play in four of five positions so we are lucky."

True. But maybe this year is.. different? It will be interesting to how Antonio Conte rates their chances... Was it Chelsea's poor performance or Man City's swagger that won the day?

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BT Sport:

"There are no words to describe what Chelsea are and what they did last season.

"It is important to win and especially with the way we played. In the first half we didn't find the right position but in the second we were better. A big congratulations for the victory.

"Chelsea want to play and they are so so dangerous in attack but we kept the ball and when they had it we pressed as high as possible.

"Everyone is talking about Kevin de Bruyne. He makes absolutely everythin. He is the most humble guy, I am so happy for him because I know how happy he is.

"The last few games Fabian Delph has played and he had an outsanding performance. He is a guy that doesn't lose the ball he is aggressive and clever. I am so happy for him after last season and the way he played last season."

The way he tells it, the way his eyes light up, it looks like there's a bit of a bromance between Pep Guardiola and Kevin de Bruyne.

De Bruyne was outstanding today. The match-winner against his former club.

There's praise for Fabian Delph, too. He did a good job at left-back. Full quotes from Pep to come.

  17. 'A nice month for us!'published at 19:37 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, speaking to BT Sport: "I think it was a tactical game and disciplined game from both sides. We had more chances, not too many but a little bit more. We played tactically a great game, It's a nice win because it's difficult to win here.

"It ends a very nice month for us. it's only the beginning but it's good to maintain the winning streak. We want to win as many as possible. We wan to lose as less game as possible because the feeling when you win is better. We have two games with the national team and then come back and continue."

When asked if the win was sweeter because he is an ex-Chelsea player, the Belgium international added: "No that's the past. What happened happened and I have no regrets coming here. It made me stronger. I made a decision at the time, Chelsea made a profit on me. I am happy with my new team City and I am happy with my team-mates."

  18. 'That's for you big man'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

    FT: Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph, speaking to BT Sport:

"The win is huge. We knew coming into the game it was our toughest of the season but we had a game plan and we stuck to it.

"The plan was to stick with them on the counter. I lost Willian a few times but I think we did the job to a tee.

"That performance there was for one of our teammates, Benjamin Mendy. He left us a message before the game and we knew we had to do it for him. If you're watching, that's for you big man.

"It sends out a massive message. We needed to come out on top today. There's a togetherness in the team and you could see that on the pitch today."
