Manchester City are really pressing Chelsea in possession and have already caused one of two anxious moments,

Not that manager Pep Guardiola looks hugely satisfied by any of this as he prowls his technical area. In fact, it rarely looks like he enjoys football matches, strange given the scintillating performances of his players this season.

  2. CHANCES!published at 12 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Man City

Kyle Walker drives hard at goal, he runs for yards and yards unchallenged, the Chelsea players backing off.

Walker lays off for Silva, but the Spaniard cannot find the target.

Then, Antonio Rudiger sells Thibaut Courtois short with a backpass - and again City nearly profit from calamity. This time, Courtois just manages to scramble away with Gabriel Jesus right on him.

    Chelsea 0-0 Man City

Lovely from Alvaro Morata, taking a tricky lofted pass from the back down and away into space in the middle of the park, where there seemed to be none whatsoever. He's really come into his own these past few weeks, the ex-Real Madrid striker.

Gabriel Jesus now scuffs a shot from range into Andreas Christensen's ankles on the edge of the box.

OOOOH. Antonio Rudiger dawdles over a clearance and Leroy Sane runs him down - Chelsea are really lucky the rebound fell to their keeper.

    Chelsea 0-0 Man City

City are being afforded a lot of space to pass across the back, so they take it.

Raheem Sterling now darts in from the right side, a strong run that is ended by Tiemoue Bakayoko's rugged challenge. City want a free-kick on the edge of the box. Nothing doing, but they had a case.

    Chelsea 0-0 Man City

Thibaut Courtois gobbles up a Kevin de Bruyne free-kick. There is N'Golo Kante in acres down the right wing again as the Chelsea keeper quickly knocks it up the park, but this time City soak up.

A lively start this. Bodes well.

  7. CHANCE!published at 4 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Man City

An early opening! N'Golo Kante lifts a dinky ball into the box, straight onto Alvaro Morata's head, but the Spaniard nods over. He had loads and loads of space. Definitely should have tested Ederson. City were sleeping.

    Chelsea 0-0 Man City

No joy for Leroy Sane down City's left side as he looks to cut in after a slick passing move that starts straight from the back. Tiemoue Bakayoko and N'Golo Kante in the middle. There's no way through.

Chelsea send a quickly-taken free-kick into the slickbacked Alvaro Morata in the box, but he is quickly crowded out.

The biggest game of the season so far, and what a juicy one.

Chelsea's win at Atletico Madrid was one of the best recent results by any English team in Europe.

It's 10 league wins in 12. Alvaro Morata has 10 goals in 10 matches for club and country. Hazard is nearing full sharpness.

But City are the first side to score five or more goals in three consecutive top-flight games since Blackburn Rovers in August 1958.

Sergio Aguero's absence is an obvious blow but they're unbeaten in 14 league matches since losing at Chelsea in April.

John McEnerney: A big game like this requires big game players Cesc & Hazard to step up in the biggest game of the season so far! Home win just.

Yullaw: Chelsea vs City, it's a goalscoring draw written all over it. 2-2!

Jay Barnes: I have a suspicion that Morata is going to roast this City defense.

Chelsea have not been quite as spectacular as City in terms of the number of goals they have scored, but their opening-day defeat by Burnley seems a long time ago.

Since then it has been business as usual for the defending champions, really. Both sides are full of quality and this is going to be very close.

    Prediction: 1-1

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte on Eden Hazard and team selection: "If he was able to play one game like the last game against Atletico Madrid it means he's ready now to play with continuity.

"For us, he's an important player. Last season he had an important season, he played very well, he performed as a top player. I'm very happy for him.

"It will not be easy to make [selection] decisions tomorrow, because, in my eyes, there is the last performance against Atletico Madrid.

"Every single player performed very well in this game. But I have to check the physical condition for every single player and then to make the best decision."

How did last season's meetings play out?

In December, Chelsea beat City 3-1 at the Etihad, when Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho were both sent off in injury time, Cesc Fabregas tumbling over the ad boards. Remember that?

In April, Chelsea won again, 2-1 at home, Eden Hazard scoring twice as the Blues closed in on the title.

  20. Can Man City do without Aguero?published at 17:09 British Summer Time 30 September 2017

Chelsea v Man City (17:30 BST)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Stamford Bridge

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists they must show their strength and stature without striker Sergio Aguero, who was injured in a car crash in Amsterdam this week.

Guardiola is certainly not short of attacking strength and is still able to call on Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus to provide threat, backed by Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Raheem Sterling.

Real attacking riches - but Aguero has the natural poacher's instinct to make a difference in these games. Guardiola will hope he is not missed in one of the stand-out fixtures of the Premier League season.
