  4. Premier League loan rulespublished at 00:39 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

Deals, deals, deals. But what are the rules that govern them? The Premier League have given us some guidance on loan deals. Here we go...

These are officially called temporary transfers. Under Premier League rules, there are restrictions on how many players Premier League clubs can loan from other Premier League/English clubs. They are:

    • Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time.
    • The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.
    • Premier League clubs cannot loan to another Premier League club a player they have acquired in the same transfer window.
    • A Premier League club may loan not more than one of its goalkeepers to another Premier League club
    • With the exception of Welsh clubs competing in the competitions listed under Rule V.6.2, loans from a club in membership of another National Association do not count towards the above quotas (international loans are governed by FIFA under separate regulations)

Barnet have pulled off a bit of a lower-league coup with the signing of Dave Tarpey from Maidenhead.

He turned down a move to Coventry earlier in the summer as he could make more money staying part-time.

  11. Late Wolves update anyone?published at 00:23 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM

The very late announcement of the defensive midfielder Alfred N'Diaye's arrival at Molineux at least prevented Wolves from drawing a blank on deadline day. The 27-year-old Senegalese international has Premier League experience, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull and had a previous spell at Sunderland, and will be with Wolves on loan from Villarreal for the season.

A solid signing - but Wolves did not land the striker they so obviously need. Their plans were apparently scuppered by a change of heart from PSV Eindhoven, who were reportedly happy to accept an eight-figure offer for the forward Jurgen Locadia until early evening.

Leo Bonatini is therefore the only specialist senior striker available following the sale of Nouha Dicko on Wednesday, although a number of others in the squad can play in that role too. Taking the window as a whole, Wolves were certainly busy bringing in players, but arguably they failed - for whatever reason - to fill the most important gap. Bonatini has made an encouraging start to his career in England, but he may find he is carrying a heavy burden for a while.

    Zappacosta in at Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea signed defender Davide Zappacosta from Torino on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee just before the end of the window.

The 25-year-old has been capped four times by Italy, with Blues boss Antonio Conte handing him his first call-up to the national squad in May 2016.

The full-back joined Torino from Atalanta in 2015 and made 29 Serie A appearances last season.

"I hope I can show my quality to the coach, my team-mates and the supporters," said Zappacosta.

  15. Barkley updatepublished at 00:06 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    Everton

Everton's claim that Ross Barkley turned down a move to Chelsea after having a medical and agreeing a contract have been disputed by a source close to the England midfielder.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri said Everton had accepted a bid and Barkley had agreed personal terms before changing his mind after passing a medical.

But the source said the 23-year-old did not travel to Chelsea.

And they said he had not had a medical.

"It was simply that he would rather make a decision about his next move when he is fully fit, rather than arrive at a new club injured," the source said.
