Ask yourself why I got high blood pressure on the day of the medical.

The Ross Barkley story sounds eerily like the episode of The Office where Brent gets offered a better job, fails the medical, and then tries to convince Malcolm that he turned the job down / failed the medical on purpose.

Anybody out there still waiting for a deal? Sunderland have just hinted at another one.

  4. Zappawho?published at 23:40 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Chelsea

Ross Mooring of the Chelsea Football Fancast, external:

Davide Zappawho? Chelsea's full back purchasing magic 8 ball finally settled on the Italian from Torino.

According to a friend of mine in Italy (some bloke I follow on Twitter), Zappacosta is an incredible crosser of the ball and will be expected to step right in and provide an alternative to Victor Moses. Conte gave him his first cap for Italy so this will end the window on a positive note for the manager.

Os Oris: Ross Barkley transfer - promised a lot, almost delivered, ultimately disappointed. Much like the player himself.

Graeme: Today was the end of player power. Several clubs had contracts with players and held them to it. A great day. Get back to work

Dean Mead: @ChelseaFC, external finally got someone! Welcome Zappacosta still could do with couple late deals if happen

  6. I missed my late shift at Tesco...published at 23:35 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

is this the quote of the day so far?

"I was meant to have my work shift at Tesco tonight – but it was worth the cancel. I’ve not handed my notice in yet, but I will do soon!”

Luton have signed Aaron Jarvis from non-league Basingstoke.

Newcastle fans are not happy - and they are not expecting Rafa Benitez to hang about...

Good luck to Rafa when the inevitable happens. We won't hold a grudge. It's not even the money, it's the game playing. Ashley isn't stupid, he knows what's required and frankly seems to delight in the anguish he is causing season after season.

Does anyone know where Mahrez is going? Or is he still wandering around the duty free in the airport listening out for his name on the tannoy. Would Mr Mahrez please make his way to........

  12. Deal sheetspublished at 23:25 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

What's the deal with deal sheets? Here is the Premier League with a quick bit of insight...

    • Sometimes it is not easy for clubs to get everything on a deal completed and sent over to the Premier League by the deadline. The deal sheet allows a club to confirm that a deal has been reached and to allow for additional time to submit the remaining documentation.
    • The deal sheet cannot be used until two hours before the deadline and needs to arrive fully completed before the transfer window closes. Once the sheet arrives, clubs have an additional two hours after the window closes to submit the full paperwork. But if a club are looking to complete an international transfer, they still have to comply with the FIFA TMS of deadline of midnight.
  13. What's left?published at 23:24 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

By our reckoning the following deals still could happen:

    SakhoImage source, Getty Images

Mamadou Sakho to Crystal Palace from Liverpool

Danny Drinkwater from Leicester to Chelsea

Adrien Silva from Sporting Lisbon to Leicester

  14. Llorente to Spurspublished at 23:20 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Trevor Sinclair
    Ex-England winger on BBC One

Fernando Llorente is a great plan B for Spurs. His hold up play is superb and he scores goals. If you want to go a bit more direct at times you can go to him.

The bigger story on this is that Antonio Conte has missed out on him. For him to turn down Chelsea and go to Tottenham is a big blow.

They've lost five or six in this window - it's disappointing for Chelsea.

  15. DONE DEALpublished at 23:20 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

Sheffield United have signed Clayton Donaldson from Birmingham. A tidy deadline-day signing, he moves on after Harry Redknapp bought in 13 players this summer!

  16. Where would Llorente fit in at Tottenham?published at 23:19 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

The Spaniard's move from Swansea has certainly puzzled our reporter Simon Stone.

Two Jordan Williams have joined Rochdale this summer.

Liverpool's 21-year-old midfielder follows his namesake who put pen to paper at Spotland back in June.

That's going to be confusing for Rochdale regulars...

    Bony to Swansea
