  1. The gloves are off at the Etihadpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 21 October 2017

The rain is pelting down at the Etihad as the players emerge for the second half, and it feels like the temperature has dropped a notch too.

None of the players are wearing gloves here, though, and probably for the best. Can you imagine Sean Dyche's reaction if one of his team reached for some mittens at half-time?

  2. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

A brief moment of panic in the Manchester City area as a long ball bounces around some eight yards from goal. It's begging for a finish which no one can come close to applying.

A spell of pressure though at least and two corners are forced. The first looks good but no one can get a head on it, the second is flicked clear.

"Come on Burnley, come on Burnley," chant the away fans. Still their side attack. Jeff Hendrick wants a free-kick out of Fernandinho but Roger East gives a goal kick.

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

Fabian Delph has it at left back, he saw more ball than any player on the pitch in the first half. Again he finds Leroy Sane who sweeps the ball onto David Silva. Stiff defending though as Silva is tracked all the way and can only touch the ball out for a goal kick.

A few fans have full ponchos on now as the rain comes down. It could be a damp walk home.

  4. Postpublished at 46 mins

No changes for either side at the break. Ederson in the Manchester City goal rushes out and lampoons the ball into the stands under pressure.

    Here we go then.

As things stand, Manchester City are going five points clear of Manchester United.

This could be a big 45 minutes.

Burnley could do with seeing more of Jeff Hendrick in the second half. The midfielder had just eight touches in 45 minutes.

Benjamin Lee: Bernardo Silva looks poor, but he had to make sure referee gave him the penalty correctly as Pope's knee traps his right foot.

A lot of debate about the penalty. What do you think? Thanks for the contribution Benjamin.

  8. Plenty to cheer about at the Etihad - but was it a penalty?published at 15:59 British Summer Time 21 October 2017

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

So far, so good for Manchester City, who are halfway to a club-record 11th straight win, and there are cheers at the Etihad at half-time when the stadium announcer reads out the Huddersfield score - I wonder why?

Much debate over the penalty that gave City the lead but close inspection of the replay shows there was definite contact from Nick Pope on Bernardo Silva, with the Clarets keeper's knee coming down on top of the City midfielder's foot.

You or I would fall over too if that happened, but was it enough for Silva to go down the way he did, clutching his boot? Probably not, but the fact there was contact at all is likely to mean that the FA's diving panel won't get involved retrospectively.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 21 October 2017

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

    Intriguing stuff.

Burnley happy to concede possession and sit in early on but you can see why they are doing well this season as when they do rarely get forward you can see they have a good understanding of where one another are.

City have dominated and with the lead, they don't need to chase things now. The game has a nice balance. Stay tuned for some stats...

  11. Blocked by the face!published at 45+1 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

As three minutes are shown on the added time board Manchester City surge over the halfway line. A cross comes in and is cleared. Burnley now have their shape again. Kevin de Bruyne tries a cross... headed clear.

The ball finds its way to Sergio Aguero on the left of the area... low shot... saved by the legs... rebound for Bernardo Silva... brilliantly blocked by James Tarkowski. That was the definition of a goal-saving block and he took it right in the face!

  12. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

This game has a decent flow now. Sergio Aguero peels behind the defence to latch onto a pass and fire at the legs of Nick Pope. On the counter, Robbie Brady is hauled down by Fernandinho. Booking.

  13. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

Wow, I almost put the kiss of death on Mancheser City then.

Just as I said Burnley had not touched the ball in the area City are guilty of overplaying at the back and a loose Kevin de Bruyne touch 25 yards from his own goal gives the away side a good look.

The ball is set for Scott Arfield and his shot is deflected to loop over the bar. From the corner Ben Mee sees a header blocked by one of his own players.

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

Even though Chris Wood broke into the area before hobbling off injured it would seem he didn't touch the ball during that early attack. That means we arrive at 40 minutes with the away side yet to touch the ball in the area.

Is it just me or when Sergio Aguero arrived in England were we still in a culture of questioning whethere strikers could come over from La Liga and look as prolific? I seem to remember having that argument with someone who didn't think he'd cut the mustard.

The boy did good and he nearly has another goal for his collection... flashing a shot across goal from 20 yards. Good hit at the end of a determined run.

  16. Aguero back in business with a bangpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 21 October 2017

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

The chant of "Ser-gio, Ser-gio... Ser-gio, Ser-gio" echoes around the Etihad Stadium... it is 23 days since Aguero damaged his ribs in a car crash in an Amsterdam taxi, but he is back in business now.

That goal has settled the home fans down a bit. They had been getting a bit frustrated by the amount of time Burnley were taking over throw-ins and goal-kicks, which is a bad sign in the first 25 minutes of a match.

  17. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

What we know is that goal is key. Burnley will have to come out a touch more now and the pressure is off the home side slightly. They win a free-kick in the City half and Robbie Brady will swing it in... out comes Ederson to punch.

Not for the first time in this match that was good, brave goalkeeping. The fans chant his name immediately.

  18. The controversy...published at 32 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

That penalty incident was key so let me run you through it again for clarity. For me it's a penalty.

David Silva's ball through the defence was sublime, picking out the bursting run of Kevin de Bruyne. He poked his shot against the keeper and the follow up saw Bernardo Silva pip the ball to his left as Nick Pope slid at his feet. To my eye, Pope's knee almost rests on the right foot of Silva, trapping it briefly.

He goes down and Roger East points to the spot. A glut of Burnley players protest and in the aftermath both James Tarkowski and Leroy Sane are booked.

Some real debate around that spot-kick but all the history books will show is that this was the goal that moved Sergio Aguero level with Eric Brook as Manchester City's leading all-time goalscorer.

Aguero slots the ball to the keeper's left while Nick Pope dives right.

Goal number 177 for the club brings up a huge roar.

  20. PENALTY TO MAN CITYpublished at 28 mins

    Manchester City 0-0 Burnley

A sublime ball, whipped at pace, pierces the Burnley defence and causes chaos. Kevin de Bruyne nearly scores but Nick Pope saves. In the aftermath, Bernardo Silva nicks the ball past Pope and goes down... penalty.
