    Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

Serge Aurier dives in. Free-kick Palace. Left wing.

Yohan Cabaye whips it in, Paulo Gazzaniga claims that comfortably this time. Andros Townsend is then booked for pulling Moussa Sissoko back by the shorts.

  2. CLOSE!published at 45 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

Son has not had a good game. He's in behind momentarily, a good touch would take him in on goal a la Dortmund but he is pushed wide. He then neither shoots nor crosses and just sort of chips it across goal. Harry Winks then scuffs a long-range shot wide. Spurs are a good 30-40% down on their Real Madrid performance.

Jan Vertonghen runs the ball to the edge of the Palace area. There must be 20 players within 30 yards of the Palace goal. So condensed.

Kane ran in behind for the first time then - there's been no space behind the Palace back four. But he was caught offside. Palace's concentration, organisation and workrate has been good and they've had a little bit of threat on the counter too.

Good shout Nathan! Forget the last five years...

Harry Kane spins in behind the Palace defence but his timing is off and he's offside.

  8. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

Whether Harry Winks will go on to cement himself in this Spurs team or go the way of Mason, Carroll, Livermore etc remains to be seen, but it's encouraging to see him so involved. Everything is going through him.

The ball comes left, Danny Rose's low cross is not the best but it's deflected up, Harry Kane wants to volley it but Scott Dann is going to get there so instead he heads on to the roof of the net.

Better from Aurier there to pick out Rose at the far post. He needs to head it back across goal but he's outside the six yard box and is frustrated with himself that he fluffed it. That's the best chance of the game so far and Kane kicked the post in frustration.

Spurs are neat and intricate and it's all about being patient today. By hook or by crook, they just need to get a result.

  10. CLOSE!published at 31 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

Best chance of the game, and not especially close to be honest. Serge Aurier has space on the right and he delivers an excellent early cross which catches the Palace defence out. Danny Rose is free at the far post, he's wide of the goal and maybe 10 yards out, he closes his eyes though and gets his angles all wrong. Well off target.

Palace are getting deeper and deeper. They'll be standing on Julian Speroni's toes soon. Twice they clear the ball away and they don't have a single player in the Tottenham half.

Roy Hodgson will certainly be happy at the moment. But I hadn't expected anything different. Tottenham were always going to have to make the running and a bit of flatness from the Real Madrid win was likely. It's nothing a goal wouldn't sort out but the longer it stays level the more confident Palace will become.

Son has been superb whenever I've seen him play for Spurs this season but he's not on it today. Three times he's lost possession on the run and now he plays a simple pass out of play when Danny Rose was on.

Spurs are a little exposed down the wings and Aurier and Rose need to be helping their defence today. The back three have already shown they can defend extremely well but with Zaha, Townsend and Loftus-Cheek about, they will cause problems.

Palace keep the ball for a long time, good neat play with Yohan Cabaye involved heavily but they don't go anywhere with it and eventually it's picked off.

Harry Kane is now hurt, he has also rolled his ankle in a challenge. Is the surface not the best maybe? Every England player is in the wars.
