    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

Cracking game this, so far. Newcastle started brilliantly through Joselu's early goal but Leicester grew in confidence and took control after Riyad Mahrez's stellar leveller.

The Foxes are looking good for three wins in a row, but the Magpies have shown they have enough about them to capitalise on any errors and snap their slump.

Here come the players - we'll be back underway shortly at St James' Park.

No weather worries at St James' Park, but plenty of snow-shoveling has gone on around the country to ensure matches went ahead today.

    Even Santa got involved...

  4. 'Leicester have taken control'published at 18:20 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

    John Hartson
Former Arsenal striker at St James' Park for 5 live Sport

Leicester have pretty much taken control of the game since they got back in it. I think Rafael Benitez will be relieved to get his team in at 1-1, they had a wonderful start but then Leicester began playing and they've got some excellent players who are always going to create good chances.

Craig in Norwich: Re 17:57, there's no mystery why Mahrez wasn't bought in the summer. He simply doesn't perform consistently enough to warrant a club spending £60 million on a transfer fee and wages.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

After a rapid start, the intensity has dropped a few notches in the last 10 minutes to finish the half.

Leicester will be the much happier team though, they were all over Newcastle after Riyad Mahrez's stunning equaliser.

No. Matt Ritchie fires it under the wall, but it's gathered by Kasper Schmeichel at the second attempt.

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

Harry Maguire is the next Leicester defender to make a mistake, fouling Dwight Gayle just outside the area.

Touch of complacency from the visitors? Will Newcastle punish them...

  13. Newcastle's all-time XIpublished at 18:07 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

    Gary Flintoff

Newcastle have asked their fans to pick their all time XI to mark their 125th anniversary. They have just displayed it around the pitch. No Chris Waddle!

The team: Given, Craig, Moncur, Albert, Beresford, Gascoigne, Beardsley, Ginola, Shearer, Milburn, Keegan.

  14. CLOSE!published at 36 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

Poor lapse in concentration by Ben Chilwell, as the Leicester left-back clips a square ball straight to Jacob Murphy, just outside the area.

Murphy gets it onto his left and his curling strike is parried away well by Kasper Schmeichel.

Newcastle can't capitalise on the corner and Leicester clear.

  15. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

Newcastle finally respond to this Leicester domination with a neat move down the left as another cut-back finds Dwight Gayle in the area.

But he takes too many touches and the Leicester defence can wrestle it off him. Strangled cries for a penalty from the home crowd. Nothing doing there.

  16. 'Referee got it spot on'published at 18:03 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2017

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

    John Hartson
Former Arsenal striker at St James' Park for 5 live Sport

It's a great call from the referee - no penalty.

When you go to ground early you have to get the ball, he's got a little bit of the ball and it's a great decision. We're quick to criticise referees when they get it wrong but Neil Swarbrick has got that absolutely spot on.

  17. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

Remember that Jamie Vardy screamer against Liverpool the season that Leicester won the title?

He's just tried to score a pretty much identical goal, a ball from deep down the right sitting up invitingly, but this time Vardy loops his effort just too high and over the bar.

  18. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

Danny Simpson is having pretty much free rein down the right, getting onto the end of another cross, but his header loops over.

The crowd are incensed to see the former Newcastle player flying down the flank unchallenged.

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

    Gary Flintoff

Rafa Benitez is scribbling in his notepad after that equaliser. Am I being unkind to suggest he could be writing: Darlow should have saved that?

And I have never seen Claude Puel so animated before. He was convinced that was a penalty. He was screaming at his own bench!

  20. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 28 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Leicester

    Eeek, this is tight.

Leicester play Jamie Vardy through the middle and the England man duly streaks past everyone, with Newcastle's DeAndre Yedlin putting in a desperate lunge.

Yedlin definitely gets the ball, but it looks he touches Vardy first.

Vardy is livid, but no penalty awarded by Neil Swarbrick.
