Jay: Blimey - Mourinho is going for broke.

Michael Reid: Says a lot about Jose's plans against City with 3 defenders on the bench...

James Ballantyne: Wow! Martial, Rashford and Lingard start. Did not expect that! If it's a bus being parked it'll be a fast one.

It will be very difficult for United to win the league if they lose today and go 11 points behind in December. They have to win it. A draw is no good for them.

Managers can say what they need to in the press conference but it's 11 v 11 and once the game is under way that is irrelevant.

I can see United playing counter-attack today, they have the pace to do that. An early goal will really open the game up.

  3. SUBSTITUTION - Salah offpublished at 67 mins

A standing ovation for Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah - he is replaced by Roberto Firmino with 25 minutes or so left. His goal remains the difference.

Snow just starting to fall a little more heavily here at Old Trafford but the pitch looks in perfect condition and no ground staff have needed to pay the surface any attention at the moment.

It would be too early to call the Premier League title race off if Manchester City win and extend their lead to 11 points - but what damage such a result could inflict.

So nearly two for Liverpool, Joe Gomez rising between two blue shirts but only heading on to the roof of the net, and not into it.

Wonderful cross from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, that is first class, bending in behind the Everton defence and needing Jordan Pickford to make a brave and useful intervention inside his own six-yard box.

In terms of possession and quality there is a gulf of difference, but it's still only 1-0.

But, having said that, I'm sat here feeling relaxed because I don't think they are capable of scoring a goal.

Ashley Williams stops tweetign long enough to hammer another aimless long ball out of play, much to the delight of the Anfield crowd. Presumably this containment policy will have to switch soon for Everton?

Ash Williams: Oxlade-Chamberlain looks better in this side. No idea why Wenger could get it right with him.

    Concentrate on defending Ashley!

Approaching the final third at Anfield and Everton do not look like scoring at all. Wayne Rooney has been up front since half time but the game is passing him by.

Everton have had 24% of the ball since the break. Which is a marked increase but still nowhere. Dom Solanke almost gets a clean shot away after Cuco Martina's poor clearance.

When United play at Old Trafford you have to go out and play to win, Jose Mourinho can't shut up shop today. I can't see it.

Raheem Sterling's finishing is improving all the time. He has been made a scapegoat in the past but this season he has been fantastic in front of goal.

Everton need width, I'm not sure what Vlasic has done wrong, but at least Lennon coming on will help out Jonjoe Kenny and push Rooney further up.

It is more open, Everton are more vulnerable. This time Joe Gomez finds a pass to release Dominic Solanke, he plays it across first time and Sadio Mane almost has a tap-in but it's well cleared.

That's what Mane should have done earlier!

Will those changes mean a more open game? Liverpool have the first moment of the second half as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's cross is well defended by Jonjoe Kenny.

Kenny then loses Mohamed Salah, and his header loops just wide!
