That miss from Mane suggests he’s feeling a little insecure about Salah’s form. A new African star is born

    Aman, London

Winning is about teamwork and, much as I love Sadio Mane, he is selfish once too often. Will that spurned goal be important...?

It is ridiculous how much possession Liverpool have been allowed by Everton.

In these games, you have to be brave in other ways than simply putting in a few meaty challenges.

When you look at it, Liverpool have been far superior, every time they get the ball they look like they are going to do something. For Everton, the passing has been poor and they've been caught in possession when they do get the ball.

    Liverpool 1-0 Everton

It's a niche audience, but if like me you spend most of your weekends looking at Opta stats you'll know how unusual this game has been in that 45 minutes.

Jordan Henderson completed 60 passes in the first half; six more than the whole Everton side put together.

Jonjoe Kenny found a team-mate with 16% of his passes. Unheard of.

Agreed - a sensational goal to illuminate a very poor half of football, entertainment wise.

Mohamed Salah has scored 19 goals in 24 games for Liverpool this season (all comps), as many as he netted for Roma last term in 41 games.

The one thing that Liverpool were lacking was a little bit of quality in that final third - it's no surprise to see it come from Mo Salah.

He's given Jordan Pickford no chance, no chance at all. the best goalkeeper in the world wouldn't have saved that.

    Shay Given
    Ex-Newcastle goalkeeper on MOTD2 Extra

My only concern for City would be from set-pieces; United have a height advantage if they can get the right deliveries. We don't know the team yet, but maybe Fellaini will come in?

On the other hand, City are lightning on the break, so will Mourinho park the bus in his own stadium?

It's a big decision to make.

Man Utd v Man City (16:30 GMT)

    Robbie Savage
BBC Radio 5 live summariser at Old Trafford

Not having Paul Pogba is a huge blow for United. For the neutral, you want to see the best players play this type of game, United cannot afford to lose.

It's a big decision who plays instead of Pogba - Ander Herrera or Marouane Fellaini. Personally I’d got for Fellaini as Manchester City are vulnerable from set pieces.

Having been at the last few City games, there’s an inevitably that they will score. They just grind you down.

If City win today the title is over so I think United will approach it quite defensively. I’m going for a low-scoring draw.

How many times has Salah scored a goal like this so far this season? He's got to be up for player of the year.

If you keep inviting good players onto you, they will punish you. That's what they have done. You can't hang out for 90 minutes and just frustrate teams.

Pass it, pass it, pass it, PASS IT!

How have Liverpool now scored that?!

Sadio Mane takes it away from Ashley Williams and Liverpool have four-on-one! Into the area, he's got to square it, has to square it, please square it - he shoots wide.

    Unforgivable?

That's 19 for the season for Mohamed Salah who is becoming a bargain game by game. He has another shot which shakes the cranium of Ashley Williams, before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain slams a volley over.

GOAL - Liverpool 1-0 Evertonpublished at 42 mins

    Mohamed Salah

    Brilliant. Just brilliant!

It was shaping up to be a war of attrition but Liverpool go to their big gun and he makes the difference.

Mohamed Salah has at least two defenders touch tight to him on the right-hand side of the penalty area but he turns away from Cuco Martina, steps past another in blue and then curls a beautiful dipping shot into the top corner with his left foot.

Not the first time he's done that this season. The Big Sam gameplan is now heading into the half-time shredder.
