    Burnley 0-1 Tottenham

Harry Kane's goal, as well as warming the hearts of Fantasy Football players the world over, means he is within two strikes of matching Alan Shearer's Premier League record for goals in a calendar year.

He has 34 in 2017 - the only players to score more are Shearer (36 in 1995) and Robin van Persie (35 in 2011).

  2. CHANCE!published at 8 mins

    Burnley 0-1 Tottenham

Hugely positive start for Tottenham here as Son Heung-min now scampers away and snatches a shot at goal, which is well fielded by Nick Pope.

You'll have to make your own judgement on the penalty - and the FA's panel might even end up doing the same. Kevin Long's foot was out in search of the ball, which he did not touch, and Dele Alli took a tumble. Only thing that matters for now is that the ref pointed to the spot.

That was their first penalty of the season by the way.

  4. PENALTY FOR TOTTENHAMpublished at 6 mins

    Burnley 0-0 Tottenham

Dele Alli goes down in the box - Kevin Long with a prod towards the ball.

OOOH. There is very little contact.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 4 mins

    Burnley 0-0 Tottenham

Dele Alli dances into an interception in the middle of the park - he is nine appearances without a goal.

He nutmegs Scott Arfield, the ball runs away from him, and he slams into Charlie Taylor with a sliding tackle. It was reckless for sure. Not his best look that.

    Burnley 0-0 Tottenham

Serge Aurier pulls a little trick to skip away from some Burnley pressure and it goes all the way back to Hugo Lloris.

Lloris knocks it out to Davinson Sanchez, whose terrible touch gifts Burnley a throw-in. Bit rusty?

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks picked up a minor ankle injury at Manchester City last week, hence his absence at Turf Moor.

Davinson Sanchez is back in the visitors' defence after a three match ban.

Spare a thought for the visiting fans.

Tea-time game at Manchester City last week. Another trip to the north west tonight and they round off their Festive programme at Swansea.

    A few miles there.

Don't expect a MotD-leading goal-fest - you don't get loads of goals at Turf Moor. But don't mistake that for a lack of entertainment.

Burnley haven't got to sixth place by simply shutting out opponents. They can play alright - they're just damn good at defending too, and in every Clarets game you're guaranteed a passion and honesty that comes straight from the manager.

Check out his words about VAR, external this week and try not to nod approvingly.

Mauricio Pochettino has done that about Burnley in general, and recognises the "massive" three points at stake for Spurs and the "fight" they'll need to get them.

Not winning away since the end of September warrants a 'must do better' Premier League mid-term report. Burnley? A*.

Sean Dyche won't mind having this one wrapped up early doors (that's not a Christmas pun by the way).

Burnley have only 215.25 hours between the start of today's match and the end of their fourth festive fixture on 1 January. They have the second busiest schedule in the league over Christmas and New Year.

The Clarets next play on Boxing Day, at Manchester United (15:00 GMT).

Tottenham have got an extra 63 hours' rest - their next match is at home to Southampton (12:30) on Boxing Day.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "They (Tottenham) are a fine side. I like what the manager is doing with his players. We have to be on our toes, like any other game, but especially for the upcoming fixtures.

"There's certain teams that have that little edge and Tottenham Hotspur are one of them."

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "Burnley believe a lot in the way that they play and I think at home they are a very, very tough side, and I think for us it's massive, the three points.

"We are going to have a very tough game and we need to be ready to fight. It will be a battle."

Tottenham would also find themselves sliding up the rankings and above rivals Arsenal into fifth if they can win today of course.

I can only show you six places in the league table using the graphic above, but let's face it, nobody is catching Manchester City anyway.

Calling it the race for fifth is probably putting a spin on it too...

Burnley have been on such a good run but they were probably relieved to get a point at Brighton last week, and I just wonder if the festive period might be hiccup time for the Clarets.

Burnley have scored just 16 goals in 18 games. That's 15 fewer than Tottenham.

Only Brighton, Bournemouth, West Brom and Swansea have scored fewer. Chris Wood is top scorer with five.

But they have only conceded 12 times - the joint best in the league, along with Manchester City and Manchester United.

Fair to say 25-year-old English goalkeeper Nick Pope has done a sterling job since replacing Tom Heaton - who suffered a dislocated shoulder in September. He's only conceded eight in his 15 games.

Not quite true given this book is on sale at the Burnley club shop telling the tale of the 1959-60 First Division title success.

However, in modern times, this is scarcely believable for Clarets fans.

Victory against Spurs at Turf Moor would mean Burnley celebrate Christmas Day in fifth spot, behind fourth placed Liverpool on goal difference.

    Staggering.

Sean Dyche's stubborn and surprising side are only three points away from leapfrogging over Arsenal and up into fifth place.

Victory over Tottenham will do it - but Spurs have got their own ideas no doubt...
