    Crystal Palace 1-1 Arsenal

Palace now flying, Arsenal all over the shop. Wilfried Zaha is the conduit for change, playing in Ruben Loftus-Cheek but his shot is well blocked. The Gunners defence look confused at the moment.

Jeff Schlupp now fires a shot into the side-netting!

  2. goal

GOAL - Crystal Palace 1-1 Arsenalpublished at 50 mins

    Andros Townsend

And that's why! Brilliant from Wilfried Zaha once again as he squares up Calum Chambers out on the left, jags past him and then puts in a wonderful low cross. The Arsenal defence are all turned off, all ball watching, and Andros Townsend is able to slam in with his left foot from about 12 yards.

Zaha is the standout player of either team. Surely Everton or Newcastle would benefit from a big money January bid to inject some creativity and excitement.

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal have been very incisive in possession tonight. Straight from kick-off Mesut Ozil finds Jack Wilshere and his cutback is just behind Alexandre Lacaazette, then Alexis Sanchez whips in a lovely ball and Hector Bellerin should do better - he tries to bring it down when it just needed a volley...

Dan Bell: Woeful from Palace, they've sat back and made a very average Arsenal team look like Barcelona

Amrul Choudhury: Arsenal fans getting excited should look at the table again. Mountain behind Man City

Bishop Yinkus: So there are two Alexis Sanchez's? The sluggish Alexis disappeared and the one that wants out next month turned up to attract buyers

Jos Trucker: Arsenal get ridiculous blind support or ridiculous negativity. They're an OK team, they've been OK for ages and next season they'll probably do just about average

Matt Lewis: A decent half from Palace despite going 1-0 down. With a little more time on the ball, they could very well get back into this. Zaha and Loftus-Cheek working well together

Chris Burch: Arsenal are so frustratingly inconsistent! As an Arsenal fan it's the hope that kills you.

  10. 'Arsenal have been that good'published at 20:54 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2017

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on 5 live

Palace started very well in the first 10-15 minutes and tried to impose themselves in wide areas and caused Arsenal problems, but at the moment Arsenal have been that good. The passing, movement and triangles they are creating has left Palace overrun. Palace did not start in that fashion, but finished that way because of Arsenal.

Arsenal will close up on the top four with a win tonight, while a first defeat in nine for Palace would leave them just above the drop zone.

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal

Wilfried Zaha was booked as the players came off the pitch - too much backchat to Michael Oliver and a minus point for his many fantasy managers I bet...

    Oh wait, that's me.

Johnny Magrinho: Kolasinac hasn’t played in the last few games where Arsenal have struggled. Wenger plays him and all of a sudden they look a lot more dangerous, fluid and coherent. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Hugely important player for Arsenal & Wenger.

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2017

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal

Good half - Arsenal were fluid and fluent and very much on top. Palace have fought hard and when Wilfried Zaha get the ball they look a threat too.

Ricky Kelehar: There’s nothing “sluggish” about this Arsenal performance so far - are your tweeters watching the game??

David P H Thomas: Tonight the old Sanchez is back, he is putting a proper shift in

Joe Wedgwood: Truly believe Arsenal are STILL only two players from title winning side! Lemar, Goretzka?

  16. Postpublished at 41 mins

I disagree James - Palace are attacking in numbers when they can. Roy has not parked the bus. Arsenal have just been the better side so far. The Eagles still in this for my money.

These Palace tactics are exactly what's wrong with the Premier League today. The lower teams/relegation candidates just resign themselves to being dominated by the top teams.

  18. CLOSE!published at 40 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal

    Must score?!

    No!

Palace are on the attack and Arsenal nick it back, and then counter with real authority. Alexis Sanchez plays a peach of a pass through the middle, Mesut Ozil's take is wonderful to send him beyond the last defender, Julian Speroni comes out and Ozil doesn't know whether to round the keeper or square it for Hector Bellerin and in the end does neither.

It's a heavy touch or an overhit pass and the ball goes dead. Great football though.

I have not seen this type of energy from Arsenal for a while and they are even getting in each others way, but that is why they are dominating the game.

  20. CLOSE!published at 36 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal

Great effort from Alexandre Lacazette! He has three Palace defenders right in his face but with a dragback, a feint and a shimmy he is able to get a shot away and hits it into the side-netting of the near post.
