Well, it has been roller coaster evening.

Barnsley have their 130th anniversary celebrations dampened by a convincing 3-0 defeat by Aston Villa at Oakwell.

And that was not even close to being the most interesting aspect of one crazy night in the English Football League, as three managers are moved on.

Heading the list, Harry Redknappp as he becomes the first Championship manager sacked this season.

Turns out he was only the first EFL boss to go on the night, as Gary Caldwell was sacked by Chesterfield in League Two and and Michael Brown parted ways with EFL bottom side Port Vale.

• Millwall produce an inspired display to beat Leeds United and end the Championship leaders' unbeaten start to the season.
• Hull City and Sunderland's losing streaks come to an end with a 1-1 draw.
• Middlesbrough edge out QPR at the Riverside, Britt Assombalonga scoring the winner in a five-goal thriller.

• Bristol City, who've also only lost once, thrash Derby County 4-1 at Ashton Gate, while Diogo Jota gives Wolves victory at Nottingham Forest.

And, at last, we have a club statement from Birmingham City too! Here it is:

"Unfortunately due to the poor start to the campaign which sees the club second from bottom of the Championship, we are left with no choice but to terminate the contract of the manager with immediate effect.

"We thank him for all his efforts and wish him good luck for the future.

"Lee Carsley, Blues' head professional development coach, will step in as caretaker manager.

"There will be no further comment at this time."

Michael Brown leaves Port Vale bottom of League Two after eight games.

So here's what the Port Vale chief executive Colin Garlick has had to say on the departure of manager Michael Brown:

“We are all very disappointed with the start to the season

"I know Michael and his staff have worked extremely hard to try to rebuild the club and achieve the results that we were looking for but unfortunately this has not happened.

"I would like to thank Michael for his hard work and wish him and his family all the very best for the future”.

And Michael Brown's departure from Port Vale has now been confirmed by the club. More information coming up shortly...

They say bad luck comes in threes, right?

It now appears as though we're set for our third EFL managerial departure in the space of about an hour, with BBC Radio Stoke reporting that Michael Brown has lost his job at Port Vale.

As always, we'll bring you more as we get it.

Some more chat from Harry Redknapp, who was talking to BBC WM after the loss to Preston:

“If you’d have told me at half-time that was going to happen, I wouldn’t have possible believed you. But they got on top of us and we couldn’t handle it. We defended terribly for the goals.

“It is so difficult, you look at the league, Leeds get beat today, Derby get beat today… This Preston team are a surprise package.

“They could give anybody a game. They’re a good outfit. They looked sharper than us.”

By the way, assistant manager Kevin Bond also has left, but Paul Groves and Kevin Hitchcock are to remain.

Teenager Keinan Davis, who scored his first Aston Villa goal, told Sky Sports: "I can't really explain it, scoring that goal is something I've looked forward to since I joined the club.

"This is out first away victory, so hopefully now we can get started and get momentum going."

Aston Villa's Albert Adomah, who scored twice against Barnsley, told Sky Sports: "We needed that because we have drawn three games in a row. This is our first away win of the season and we really deserved it."

Aston Villa do it easy in the end, triumphing away from home in the league for the first time in seven matches.

Albert Adomah came up with two first-half goals, while Keinan Davis completed the win and a fine individual performance with his first goal for Villa.

Conor Hourihane goes into the book late on for Aston Villa as he brings down Ike Ugbo.

The free-kick is played in field, but the chance comes to nothing as a tame shot from Adam Hammill flies into the grasp of Sam Johnstone

Three minutes of added time to be played at the end of this.

Barnsley's biggest chance comes with less than three minutes remaining.

The ball is played into the feet of Mamadou Thiam on the edge of the area, and the attacker shows great strength to force a pass in the direction of the oncoming Ike Ugbo.

While the on loan Chelsea teenage does well to control the ball at pace, he fires wide of the far post. It must be said that Aston Villa goalkeeper Sam Johnstone did a good job, making himself big, forcing Ugbo to try find the corner.

Aston Villa are now just five minutes away from their first win in four matches.

Victory, which sees them extend their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions, will lift Steve Bruce's side up to 13th in the table.
