It was the wrong foot for Ben. It came at him with a lot of pace and bounced up in front of him. Another good delivery though.

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Jonny Williams' first touch is a good one, a bent early cross to the near post and Ciaran Clark almost volleys into his own net, slamming it wide.

From the corner the ball skips through to Ben Davies but he shanks it right-footed over the top. Chance!

It is a positive change. A forward thinking player and maybe that it was the game needs. A player with a box of tricks to unsettle Ireland at the back.

  4. SUBSTITUTION - Joe Allen OFFpublished at 37 mins

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Joe Allen is helped down the tunnel, he doesn't look too happy but he obviously can't carry on.

The change is a positive one from Chris Coleman, the progressive Jonathan 'Joniesta' Williams is on.

It doesn't look like Joe Allen will be able to continue but the hosts keep the ball regardless, a long period of passing without getting anywhere near the Irish goal.

Joe Allen is on his feet but I'm not sure he knows what day it is. All over the place.

He got absolutely crunched there. It is a physical game. You don't want the referee to get the yellow card for every single challenge but Joe Allen got the wrong end of that one.

Ouch! NFL style challenging as Joe Allen gets sandwiched between two players as he competes for a bouncing ball, David Meyler comes in at full pace and smashes Allen in the head with his hip.

No card shown by the referee. Allen seeing stars.

Johnny Magrinho: Backing Ireland to win with a late goal. Wales think they've won the game already. They're not as good as they think they are.

Paul Luckock: Lacking in a little technical quality, one mistake could resolve it?

  10. CLOSE!published at 31 mins

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

A half chance for the visitors! They launch a long free-kick to the edge of the area, Big Sam at Bolton style, Ciaran Clark is able to wrestle the ball into the path of centre-half partner in crime Shane Duffy, he's a good 16 yards out and on the angle but snakes a low shot across the face of goal and wide!

    Decent effort.

Martin O'Neill will feel the team has weathered the early onslaught by the Wales team. Hopefully they can develop their own forward play now.

  12. World Cup qualifiers latestpublished at 20:15 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

Amazingly, we are still 0-0 in all nine of tonight's World Cup qualifiers, with 30 minutes having being played. Still waiting for someone to make a move in the big race for Russia.

The tempo is dying down a touch now. Ireland will consider this an excellent start. Have they weathered the storm? Wasn't even a storm to be honest.

Wales have a free-kick out wide, Aaron Ramsey to take but it's poor and Darren Randolph catches it easily. Poor from the Arsenal man.

Tom Lawrence scored the winner for Wales the other night and he takes a snapshot from distance again, hits it well but straight at Darren Randolph.

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport at the Cardiff City Stadium

The game has followed expectations so far: electric atmosphere, good pace to the game and Wales dominating possession.

The Republic of Ireland have appeared a little rattled on occasions but they won't mind if Wales continue to hold the ball for long periods.

The visitors seem content to defend deep and narrow, hoping to hit Wales on the break or from a set-piece.

It is fast and frantic. You have a split second in the middle of the park to make your mind up otherwise someone is snapping at their heels.

Ireland scored from a long throw the other night and they almost do again! It's not pretty but it's sure effective.

Cyrus Christie winds up the trebuchet and delivers evil into the six-yard box, it's not dealt with and ends up at the feet of Jeff Hendrick maybe 10 yards out. He's under pressure but it's a chance - he miscues the shot.

Another big scuffle as Wales can't clear but eventually they tonk it downfield.

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Still no goals anywhere in Europe. Tension? What tension?!

Ireland have their longest spell of possession as the home fans start to jeer, but eventually it gets booted up toward Daryl Murphy and he loses out.

It is very important Wales defend those set pieces with their lives because the Republic of Ireland have quality in particular through James McClean and Robbie Brady. Wales have to concentrate.
