Wales are doing everything they can to get back into this game. I have to say Ireland's tactics have been spot on tonight.

Ben Woodburn produced miracles during the last international break, can he do it again? He weaves in from the left but can't connect, before Aaron Ramsey's cross is headed over by Hal Robson-Kanu.

It is Ukraine 0-1 Croatia and what that means is that even a draw would not be enough for Wales to survive. It is getting worse for Wales.

It may well be a complete backs to the wall job for Ireland now. Can Wales possibly find a way through the white wall?

The goal came out of nothing. Wales were in good possession. Ireland sprung a quick press, pinched the ball and scored a magnificent goal.

As you can imagine, the green corner of the Cardiff City Stadium is going berserk after James McClean's huge goal.

The mistake from Wales captain Ashley Williams, which started it all, stunned the home crowd into silence but they're back in full voice now, desperate for their time to fight back.

Yep, not the first time you've seen Ashley Williams lose the ball in a dangerous area this season. As it stands, Serbia will win the group and Ireland will be in the play-offs.

Wales will be nowhere. Daryl Murphy then wins a corner for his side.

Andrew Neill: Just the 33mins (plus stoppage time) to hang on then. Not nervous, honest........

Nick Clohessey: Ashley Williams' club form following him through to his country. He's having an absolutely awful season

Tony Greaves: Sloppy from Wales. Some players look tired.

A great strike. The keeper had no chance. A ferocious hit and Wales have to come back and show that spirit they have shown.

What a finish! Let's give him credit. We were talking about not a lot of quality on show tonight but a clever little dummy by Harry Arter and a rasping right footer from inside the box.

    MASSIVE GOAL!

Wayne Hennessey rolls the ball out to Ashley Williams, poor, Jeff Hendrick takes it off him and crosses from the right. It comes through to James McClean, on his right foot, and he connects with a dreamy shot, smashed into the corner!

A few people are texting in to tell me that Greece are playing Gibraltar tomorrow - just to let you know that result (we all presume a Greece win) has no impact on the standings for play-off places. Wales are in the play-offs as it stands.

Hal Robson-Kanu does ever so well there. He gets across Shane Duffy, the first time he has had a bit of success against Duffy. That was Wales' best move yet.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 54 mins

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

That's the best moment of the game! Jonny Williams' cross from the right is a good one, Hal Robson-Kanu finds space between two defenders and arrows a powerful header on goal, but Darren Randolph watched it all the way and palms it over the top.
