  1. Thanks for your timepublished at 22:05 British Summer Time 13 October 2017

    FT St Johnstone 0-3 Rangers

Well done to Rangers for the away win and for withstanding a load of St Johnstone pressure. Carlos Pena will be a happy man this evening. For Saints, that was a much better performance than the one against Aberdeen. They will hope to be much more clinical with their set pieces in future. Highlights of tonight's game will be online at midnight. I hope you can join us tomorrow when there are five Premiership matches kicking off at 15:00. All the best.

  3. 'It's not a 3-0'published at 22:00 British Summer Time 13 October 2017

    FT St Johnstone 0-3 Rangers

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright: "It's not a 3-0. I thought we were very good. We got in to really good positions, got in behind them but our final ball let us down all night. We must have been into double digits in corners. We lacked that bit of quality in the final third. For 70 minutes I thought we slightly edged the game overall but the sending-off kills us, really. Good players in space create more opportunities and 3-0 flatters them a little bit. It's a sending-off by the letter of the law. I think the referee is saying it was aggressive behaviour [for Steven Anderson's first booking]. For the second one, it's probably the right decision but the first one surely can't be a yellow card or we'll be dishing them left, right and centre now. Overall I was happy with the performance."

  4. Caixinha heads to the sun with a smilepublished at 21:55 British Summer Time 13 October 2017

    FT St Johnstone 0-3 Rangers

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha tells BT Sport: "I think it was more organised. We tried to get to the basics. I am very happy about winning but also with the clean sheet. The boys are getting along. Hard work is the process. Totally agree (that it was Carlos Pena's best game for Rangers). It is not easy to come from a different country, different football. I saw for the first time some very good discussions on the pitch. We need to keep looking forward. Now we have three days off. I am going to Portugal for some vitamin D!"

Was it 16 corners or 17? In any case, the stats show that St Johnstone had many chances to threaten the visitors' goal from set pieces.

I thought Bruno Alves was magnificent. He is an imposing figure. St Johnstone never really looked like breaking Rangers down. It was an impressive performance by Rangers. They never looked like giving anything away tonight.

St Johnstone came out for the second half with a real intensity but Rangers grew in confidence and they rode out that five-continuous-corner scenario. They deserve enormous credit for the way they defended tonight. It has been something that Pedro Caixinha has mentioned he wanted to improve. Credit where it is due - if he has been working on it, which he says he has during the international break, then they did defend well. Graham Dorrans was a stand-out. His quality on the ball is superb, his composure, he's a goal threat. His contribution has been magnificent since he joined.

There we have it. An impressive performance by Rangers; St Johnstone were a shadow of themselves once Steven Anderson was sent off.

Alfredo Morelos comes off, Eduardo Herrera comes on. David Wotherspoon swings in yet another corner - his team's 17th! - Rangers head it clear (I should have that as a pre-set on my keyboard).

  12. goal

GOAL St Johnstone 0-3 Rangerspublished at 86 mins

    Graham Dorrans

It's all happening! Carlos Pena is subbed and given a big hug by his manager, Pedro Caixinha. Defender Ross McCrorie comes on for a few minutes' action. Soon after, Rangers win possession in midfield, then Alfredo Morelos is brought down on the edge of the box but the referee waves play on as the men in black have the advantage. Indeed, they do, as Graham Dorrans gallops into the Saints box to side-foot into the net Jason Holt's inviting assist. A peach of a move.

  13. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 84 mins

    St Johnstone 0-2 Rangers

Graham Dorrans thunders a shot off the St Johnstone crossbar from 20 yards, Alfredo Morelos setting up the midfielder. Good work from Declan John on the left prior to that.

Wonderful ball in again from Tavernier to find the head of Pena. His manager Pedro Caixinha, who hasn't left his technical area all night, is happy with the goal but still having words with the fourth official. Not sure he's happy with some of the ref's decisions.

  16. goal

GOAL St Johnstone 0-2 Rangerspublished at 77 mins

    Carlos Pena

James Tavernier sends into the box the sort of cross that strikers dream about and that makes defenders soak their bed sheets with sweat. Carlos Pena, looking sharper than at the start of the season, again finds space in the box and heads past Alan Mannus.

    St Johnstone 0-1 Rangers

Steven MacLean pings a beauty of a cross from the left for Craig Thomson who rather meekly side-foots the ball at the Gers goal, where Wes Foderingham gathers.

  18. Postpublished at 75 mins

    St Johnstone 0-1 Rangers

St Johnstone have 15 minutes to find an equaliser with only 10 men. Will Rangers look for a second or just shut up shop?

Prior to that red card, Tommy Wright sent on Paul Paton for St Johnstone's midfield maestro Chris Millar.

  20. RED CARDpublished at 71 mins

    St Johnstone 0-1 Rangers

Steven Anderson, the Saints captain, heads off for an early bath after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Alfredo Morelos - pulling the Gers striker's jersey as he raced away from him.
