    Sergio Gomez

    Class finish.

That's what a number 10 from Barcelona can do for you. Spain cross from the right, it's originally dealt with but runs out into the run of Sergio Gomez, left-hand side of the area. He still has plenty to do but he hits a cracking left-footed strike on the bounce, into the far corner.

The way Spain are playing is allowing us to have it in their half. We need people to get on the ball in combinations around the area – we have plenty of the ball, but we are not troubling the backline and the goalkeeper.

After Rhian Brewster's hat-trick against Brazil he had a call on his phone from a number he didn't recognise - it was Jurgen Klopp!

It's hot and humid in Kolkata, wo we have a drinks break at the moment.

    England 0-1 Spain

England still on top of the possession as Phil Foden swaps passes with Morgan Gibbs White on the edge of the area, his shot is well charged down though. In a reversal of roles it's Spain sitting deep and looking to break.

    England 0-1 Spain

Here's Sergio Gomez poking Spain ahead.

He looks offside at first but Steven Sessegnon is playing him on.

  7. CLOSE!published at 22 mins

    England 0-1 Spain

There are goals in this for England. Steven Sessegnon weaves inside from the right, it all opens up ahead of him but his left-footed shot is high and wide.

Brilliant timing from Curtis Anderson, a great challenge and real bravery taking it in the midriff. That was worrying for the England back four, they were very flat and need to be more aware of what’s around.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 20 mins

    England 0-1 Spain

That is ragged from England! They have a free-kick in a good area, Phil Foden's delivery is a good one but well cleared. Marc Guehi loses the challenge on halfway and Spain have THREE men clear on goal!

They should score. Cesar Gelabert takes a heavy touch though and keeper Curtis Anderson makes himself big, saving well and taking a whack too.

There was no need to be so gung-ho.

    England 0-1 Spain

Cracking run down the left from Callum Hudson-Odoi, like covering a racehorse marking him, and his cross is about 5% too heavy for Rhian Brewster at the back stick.

It’s important that England have to stay mentally strong, probe, recycle the ball, move the defence out of the way and the holes will start to appear.

We’ve had a good start but it was an unfortunate goal to give away. Sessegnon didn’t close down the first cross and played him on. It was a scrappy one to give away.

England have reacted well to going behind though. Good possession in the Spain half.

We can park the England annoyance at that goal - it was onside. The original camera angle made it look like Sergio Gomez was off, but the wider angle shows Steven Sessegnon playing him on at right-back.

This is niggly. Phil Foden chops past Juan Miranda but can't keep the ball in and the Barca defender treads on Foden's back, off the field. England not getting the rub of the green thus far.

I think the number 10 was offside and was putting the keeper off. It’s unfortunate for England, but they have to show their character now.

Excellent response from England, who have every right to be annoyed with that call. Rhian Brewster is straight back into action at the other end, rolling a defender but then seeing a powerful shot pushed away.

GOAL - England 0-1 Spainpublished at 10 mins

    Sergio Gomez

Spain attack and take the lead - with a slice of fortune?

Abel Ruiz plays a cracking ball out wide to Juan Miranda, his cross in is headed down by Cesar Gelabert and Sergio Gomez is there to stab in from just a few yards out.

He was well offside though - surely?!

Ah - Steven Sessegnon was playing him on, off the original camera shot.

Nigeria have won the last two World Cups at this level but we'll have a new winner tonight. The frenetic early pace is just dropping off a touch now, England captain Joel Latibeaudiere seeing plenty of the ball at the back.
