  1. Thank you and goodnightpublished at 22:25 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    FT: Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

Thank you for all your contributions tonight. It's fair to say your opinions on what you've seen differ slightly from those of Malky Mackay, whose period as interim Scotland coach now appears to be over.

There are no more Scotland internationals in the diary as things stand, but probably three or four more friendlies to come over the next 10 months before their next competitive outing.

Who leads them into those friendly games is now the big question for the Scottish FA.

    Until the next time...

Sam McKinley: Totally toothless and just really frustrating to watch. We weren’t bad but nothing’s changed!

Gavin Walker: Timidity and an absence of heart are traits of consecutive Scottish managers.

Craig Harvey: Thought they done ok. Just hope it's last time we see Matt Phillips. Just looks average at best. Could be there all night and he wouldn't score.

Graham Reid: Thank goodness Malky isn't getting the Scotland job, line up baffling, reluctant to bring on many subs, the smell of Strachan still not gone away.

  3. 'That is the future of Scottish football'published at 22:15 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    FT: Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

Interim manager Malky Mackay is upbeat about Scotland's future prospects after watching a side featuring four debutants - including substitute Jason Cummings - beaten 1-0 by Netherlands.

"To have 18 attempts on goal against Holland is sensational as far as I'm concerned," he tells BBC Scotland. "What I saw was the future of Scottish football - boys who could handle the ball.

"Tactically they were doing what we asked them, it is an athletic group who worked hard for each other, and want to play for Scotland. They were technically competent against one of the best teams in Europe, whether they are at the Euros or not.

"There was one slip, and they go and score a goal from it. We had a really good amount of chances and on another day, we win the game.

"People talk about Scotland players not having talent or technical ability, but I wouldn't say that looking at tonight's performance."

Scotland were all over them. It's ridiculous that they've lost the match. They did not deserve to lose the match. Cummings should have been on a lot earlier. Paterson should have been given half an hour at least. Cooper or Hanlon should have came on and not Mulgrew. You know everything about Mulgrew, you're not going to learn anything new about Charlie Mulgrew.

David Rose: Good to see so many of the young ones given the chance tonight, the Dutch were no mugs, don't forget this! MoM = McGinn

Michael Ryan: Hopefully new guys getting the first opportunity gives them the appetite for regular international football going forward we need these guys to gel together.

Martin Hart: At least it was only a friendly.

  6. 'A very positive performance' - McGinnpublished at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    FT: Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

John McGinn, who impressed in midfield for Scotland, has been speaking to BBC Scotland after that 1-0 defeat by the Netherlands.

"We knew how difficult a task it was going to be against a tough team, so we had to be focused. It was the first international for a while for a lot of us.

"I think over the piece we created a lot of good chances. It is frustrating we didn't take any of them. We are disappointed with that but overall we can be happy with the performance.

"Kieran Tierney led by example. He is only 20 but he was beckoning us forward. Everyone played a part. We could have done better going forward but it was a very positive performance."

I can't help but feel there's got to be a sense of rage for some of those guys that have sat on the bench. Graeme Shinnie is the one for me, it's screaming out at me. I don't want to have a go at Kenny McLean, he isa good player, but he is not as good a player as Graeme Shinnie. Graeme Shinnie is the captain of Aberdeen. He must have been sitting there thinking 'let me on'. And why did he bring on Charlie Mulgrew? We know what Charlie can do, but he is not going to be the future of a centre-back partnership. Liam Cooper was on the bench. Why didn't we get the kid on?

Ali McK: What has Matt Phillips done to deserve a game, he was rank against Slovakia and Slovenia.

Andy: better looking squad with the old guard out. Berra is woeful. Get McCrorie in.

Mark L: With a proper striker we would have won.

Der Stench Kaput: An embarrassing result against a very poor Holland side.

Kolo Hampsey: Like my fave daytime show......Pointless

It's been an exercise in allowing young players the opportunity to go out there and perform. I think the shackles should have been taken off much earlier. I think we could have been more positive. We've certainly created opportunities but we haven't been able to take them. At the end of the day it's disappointing but the youngsters have had an opportunity.

So were there any positives in that performance for Scotland to cling on to? Did any of the debutants do themselves any favours, or suggest they will remain part of the team going forward?

Or was it an opportunity missed to take a look at some other players?

  11. FULL-TIME - Scotland 0-1 Netherlandspublished at 21:35 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

Not the worst Scotland performance you'll ever see. They had enough chances, but didn't have sufficient quality to take any of them.

  12. Two minutes of stoppage time..published at 21:35 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

Scotland have made a habit of scoring late goals of late. Can they muster one here?

Matt Phillips has a free header from an in-swinging corner, but it glances off his head and out.

  13. CLOSE!published at 87 mins

    Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

Jason Cummings could have made himself a hero with his first touch in international football. The former Hibs striker, now at Nottingham Forest, is played in on his favoured left foot, but it is more of a side-footed effort and lacks the punch to trouble Jasper Cillessen.

    Quote Message

The game has fizzled out. The Dutch have pretty much been trying to play a containment game for the last 20 minutes - just popping the ball about, keeping possession of it and we've not got the energy anymore to cause them problems

  15. Cummings on for McGregorpublished at 86 mins

    Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

It remains something of a mystery why Malky Mackay has been reluctant to give more players an opportunity in a fairly meaningless game, but he's giving Jason Cummings four minutes to try to pull something out of the fire on his Scotland debut.

  16. Scotland 'deserve a goal'published at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

I think they probably deserve a goal, Scotland. Created an awful lot of opportunities but maybe just haven't had that quality to find the back of the net, but certainly in terms of opportunities created they deserve one.

  17. Postpublished at 21:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

The official attendance for tonight's friendly at Pittodrie is announced as 17,833. Not a bad turn-out.

Will those fans see a Scotland goal to send them home in higher spirits?

They have 11 minutes left to find one.

  18. 'Agonising' for Fraserpublished at 21:21 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

What an impact from Ryan Fraser. His first touch was absolutely sensational. Boring down on goal, cuts inside, wipes out two of the Dutch defenders. The easiest bit of all for him would be to hit the target and he drags the shot agonisingly wide of the post. Certainly an impact.

  19. CLOSE!published at 21:19 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

    Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

Instant impact from Ryan Fraser, who arrows in on goal off his right wing past a couple of Dutch defenders, but can only poke a left-foot shot into the side netting.

  20. Fraser on for Forrestpublished at 70 mins

    Scotland 0-1 Netherlands

Finally a second substitution from the interim Scotland coach. Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser, formerly of Aberdeen, comes on for James Forrest
