Thanks for joining us here at BBC Sport for tonight's West Midlands derby between Birmingham City and Wolves - Leo Bonatini's early goal was the difference between the two sides.

Wanderers reclaimed their four-point gap at the top of the Championship, and now have a 10-point buffer between them and third-placed Bristol City in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

As for City - who had Harlee Dean sent off late on - they stay in the relegation zone and have scored just three goals in their last nine matches.

Our next live text is on Friday night as fourth-placed Sheffield United host Bristol City in what is set to be a key game at the top of the second tier.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo told Sky Sports: "Winning is good and how is important. Today was not our best, how we played was not our best, and we felt that the players knew they should have performed better.

"It’s good to win, it’s a good result, but it was a tough game.

"We began well, but in the second half we lost some momentum in the game. I think we should do better."

"Blues were happy to go in 1-0 down, Steve Cotterill did well to bring Stephen Gleeson on and change the shape.

"The game was more in Wolves' half which we couldn't have said in the first half.

"Wolves had chances to finish it off, but it was comfortable, they saw it out."

"Wolves had a really uncomfortable 10-15 minutes, but Blues just couldn't find that bit of magic.

"Steve Cotterill can say 'come on, we keep producing games like that, we can get a lot from a lot of teams'."

No doubt that Wolves deserved all three points this evening.

Leo Bonatini's early goal proved to be decisive, but the visitors could have had a couple more - Diogo Jota and Helder Costa both had great opportunities after the break.

City's only effort on target was a weak header at the end of the first half through Marc Roberts.

While Steve Cotterill's side looked more menacing after the break, once Harlee Dean was sent off for a second yellow card after 83 minutes, the game was effectively over.

"The boys have dug in, it's a massive, massive victory for us tonight," Wolves skipper Conor Coady tells Sky Sports.

On the 10-point gap between Wolves and third-placed Bristol City: "It's big, but all we've done at the minute is a platform for where we want to be.

"We just want to keep no winning, keep on getting better and we hope we can score a lot more goals."

"Blues have battled, we've not really had an effort on target, we've made them work in the second half.

"In terms of really hurting Wolves, we've just not had that clear-cut chance."

City's Che Adams turns on the edge of the area and has a weak shot or pass (take your pick) across the face of the six-yard box and out for a goal-kick. Frustrating for City fans.

There will be four minutes of stoppage time for Blues to try and salvage something from this match. But with 10 men that seems very unlikely.....

So is that it for Birmingham City now? A valiant second-half resurgence killed off after Harlee Dean's red card? City have not forced John Ruddy into a save with 11 men, so it seems unlikely they can do something with 10......

"I'm not to sure about this, Jota got fouled, he was upset about that, but Jota made a meal of that.

"The referee has got that wrong in my opinion. It's a very, very harsh one."

Diogo Jota is pushed by Harlee DeanImage source, Rex Features

City's Harlee Dean is sent off for a second booking. Dean drags down Jota after a coming together between the Wolves player and Morrison, both of whom are given a yellow card for the first incident. Dean didn't need to get involved there - very silly.

Drum roll please, it's time for this evening's Brexit pun....

David Davis taking a break from negotiations to come on for City in place of Cheikh Ndoye.

"He [Che Adams] will run in behind the Wolves defence, it's a good change and at a good time."
