It's 1-0 to Wolves at St Andrew's but looking back on the weekend's Championship action Bristol City were the big winners - their 2-1 win over Middlesbrough at Ashton Gate saw the Robins fly up to third in the table - six points off second-placed Cardiff.

The Bluebird continue to occupy a higher branch on the second tier tree - Neil Warnock's side came from a goal down to beat Norwich City 3-1 on Friday night.

Derby were the only other side in the play-off places to win in this round of matches - their win 1-0 over Burton consolidated sixth place.

Sheffield United dropped to fourth after a 3-1 loss at Millwall while Aston Villa slipped to fifth after their 1-1 draw at Leeds United.

  2. 'Goal line technology up and running at Blues'published at 20:45 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2017

    BBC Sport at St Andrew's

As befits a team who have truly started to open their legs and show their class in recent weeks, Wolves go in with a deserved half-time lead at St Andrew's.

They have been looking a cut above the rest of the division for some weeks now and poor hard-working Blues won't be the only Championship side left chasing shadows this season.

But Wolves can at least feel fortunate in one respect.

The goal line technology that earned them that lead wasn't working here at St Andrew's earlier in the season. Some sort of problem with the lights apparently.

Thankfully, for Leo Bonatini, all fixed now, clearly!

    Shakin' Stevens

There's a new song ringing around the away end this evening.

Anyone for some Shakin' Stevens with a little West Midlands embellishment?

"Jota's scoring. All around us. Cavaleiro's having fun. 'Tis the season, Nuno understanding, Merry Christmas everyone."

I never thought I'd be looking for an image of Shakin' Stevens while covering a football match for BBC Sport...

Sheila Hardy: Didn’t look like the whole of the ball crossed the line before it was cleared. Didn’t think goal-line technology was being used in the Championship yet.

Wrestling fan: Can see Birmingham nicking an equaliser at some point.

It's been used all season in the Championship, Sheila, although sometimes the quality of the floodlights can be an issue. And for doubt, replays showed the ball was well over the line.

  5. Wolves are 'business as usual'published at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2017

    Mel Eves
Former Wolves forward on BBC WM

"I would say it's business as usual, in the way they're moving the ball... they're moving the ball so crisply and it's no fun chasing it.

"It'll be interesting to see how Blues react, they've got to keep going, they won't give the ball away unnecessarily. Nuno will get onto them something rotten if they do."

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2017

So at half-time a dominant Wolverhampton Wanderers lead Birmingham City 1-0. Leo Bonatini's strike - given via goalline technology - is the difference on the scoresheet.

But in reality Wolves have been on a different level to their hosts all night, and but for some great saves by David Stockdale it could have been more.

An effort on goal! Marc Roberts ends the half with a Birmingham City header that is easily saved by Jon Ruddy. But it's a start!

Birmingham City almost have a shot. Twice. Cheikh N'Doye slices an opportunbity 12 yards out and from the rebound Jota is dispossesed just as he goes to shoot.

One minute of added time by the way.

I don't speak Portuguese, which is just as well as whatever Nuno Espirito Santo has just said to Ivan Cavaleiro is probably unrepeatable. He's not happy about something - hard to see what as his team have been all over Birmingham City tonight.

Jon Gripton: Super Wolves in control so far at Blues. But why doesn't Jota have a number on his shirt?

He got caught in the face by a swinging arm earlier on, Jon, and his shirt got blood on it.

Birmingham City have had a corner. Wolves clear it, but hey, at least they've got into the opposition box.

They still haven't had a shot yet though.....

    Darren Carter
Ex-Birmingham City midfielder on BBC WM

"Probably the positive you can take is it's only 1-0.

"Blues are still in the game, but it's a vital period now, leading up to half-time, 1-0 is the minimum we can go in with."

Diogo Jota has a decent chance. The Wolves forward cuts in onto his right foot from the left, but his shot is weak and easily saved by David Stockdale.

Wolves keeper John Ruddy must be loving life right now.

We have just over 10 minutes left of this opening half and Birmingham City have still yet to have a shot. All he's had to do is catch a couple of crosses and take a goal kick or two.

It's still all Wolves - Diogo Jota has just sliced a shot so wide it went out for a throw in on the right, having blasted it on the volley from the left corner of the 18-yard box.

But it came from another slick Wolves passing move - Steve Cotterill's going to have his work cut out at half time to try and change this up.

You can see the reason why Wolves are doing so well this season.

They're playing a really fluid possession game right now with lots of lovely passing. At times City seem to be chasing shadows. You feel if a second goes in the floodgates could really open.

Ivan Cavaleiro forces an excellent save from David Stockdale. He won the ball back on the edge of the Blues area and blasted powerfully and low to Stockdale's left, but the former Fulham keeper was equal to it.

Wolves are very much on top right now. Leo Bonatini has almost broken through the defence as the Championship leaders have dominated possession.

Ivan Cavaleiro then breaks down the right before blasting a shot high over the bar from distance.
