Doncaster 1-0 Rochdale, Morecambe 0-1 Yeovil

How about this for a start from Yeovil Town?!

We mentioned earlier how brutal their 536-mile round trip to Morecambe only four days after Christmas looks, but the Glovers fans have been rewarded inside the opening 30 seconds with a goal from Jake Gray.

And Doncaster have an early goal in the third tier too, with Ben Whiteman putting Rovers ahead against Rochdale.

Lots of eyes are on Cardiff tonight, as they look to close the gap on leaders Wolves.

But in fact it's only Wolves who have a longer unbeaten run in the Championship at the moment than tonight's visitors, Preston, who haven't lost in eight.

  3. Postpublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2017

    Cardiff 0-0 Preston

Preston's Tom Barkhuizen bursts through midfield on a strong run but in the end his final ball isn't accurate because he's a little off balance, and Cardiff clear the danger.

  4. Postpublished at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2017

    Cardiff 0-0 Preston

Cardiff look to make a quick, early break down their right but Kenneth Zohore is just offside.

Chris Gibson: Best moment this year when Radrizzani took control of LUFC

Jack Richardson: Promotion at last for Argyle, on our way back after only knowing relegation and administration as a Plymouth fan

Stuart Hatcher: Best moment for Brentford fans in 2017, maybe taking £10m from Birmingham for 3 of our first teamers on transfer deadline day - and it not phasing us at all while Brum sit bottom (oh and a record away win at Loftus Road v QPR)

  9. Bamba 'better than Van Dijk'published at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2017

    Cardiff v Preston (19:45 GMT)

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock says Bluebirds centre-half Sol Bamba is a better defender than new £75m Liverpool signing Virgil van Dijk.

Warnock had previously stated he would not swap his own defender for any other in either the Championship or the Premier League and is standing by that, despite Van Dijk's hefty price tag.

Andrew Lee Davies on Twitter: Had to be @NewportCounty, external great escape. Left it very late in the season and even later in the final game.

What a moment indeed. Newport fans sure enjoyed it. Some of us, though, neutral but busy, were frantically re-writing the Hartlepool match report that was suddenly somewhat inadequate...

    Millwall v QPR (19:45 GMT)

Facing a much shorter journey this evening are the QPR fans who are heading to the Den tonight.

Just over 10 miles separate these two London clubs, including that 900-foot-wide body of water known as the Thames.

In the Championship table only goal difference separates them - they're both level on 27 points with Reading, eight points above the relegation zone.

Let's run you through the team news...

    Morecambe v Yeovil (19:45 GMT)

Last but by no means least, tonight also sees struggling Morecambe host Yeovil in League Two.

Now, making a round trip of some 536 miles to see your team play is tough enough on a normal day.

But making it for a night game on Friday, 29 December? Fair play to any Glovers fans attempting the trip, as well as the travelling team from BBC Somerset.
